Eddie: Adriana, Sofia, this is Buck. My... work friend.
Buck, whispering: Work friend?! I've been inside you!
Eddie: Please just go with it.
Sofia: Hi there.
Adriana: We've heard so little about you.
Sofia: Let's fix that immediately.

Everyone keeps saying Eddie is the oldest brother (I did too!) but I don't think that's actually the case??
I don't remember the episode but at some point there's a dialog involving Eddie and someone going to university (May most probably), and Eddie says something about how it was such a mess when his sister was choosing to go to university and it caused so much trouble that when it was his turn he decided to join the army bc it was easier..
Also in ep 2x01 he says his niece helped with his pictures for the calendar, and maybe in some families the term is used more largely (to include cousins' children?) (i have no idea I have a very small family) but it could also mean one of his sisters has a 12 yo kid by the time where Chris is like 7 so, that means his sister had a child 5 years before 19yo Eddie did!
Please tell me if I got anything wrong!
ramble about the diaz siblings & family dynamics
when people refer to eddie's sisters, I've noticed they tend to place him as the oldest in the birth order, but I think he's actually the youngest, and that dynamic is so much more interesting to me!! (totally not just bc I'm the youngest of three...)
one of the only details we have of eddie's sisters is in 3x9, when may writes her college essay that's critical of athena (lol love may sm) and eddie goes "i remember the drama when my sisters were applying to college... think that's half the reason why I decided to join the army." so- implying he's the youngest, that he made that decision when they were leaving for college. that he's the baby of the family.
it's always been interesting to me that as close as eddie's family is, we never meet his sisters. they never visit el paso or la, they never call, christopher doesn't mention them. and what I like to read into that is sofia and adriana got out. eddie's parents are such helicopter parents, and while i'm sure eddie literally being at war exacerbated that, the way they don't mention his sisters much at all in comparison to their role in eddie's life is so telling. eddie never talks about his sisters with malice, which makes me think he doesn't blame them for anything. he's glad they made their own paths, something that helena and ramon seemingly don't approve of.
and now I'm back to thinking about a baby eddie in high school, trying to begin to work through how he feels about shannon, trying to be the man of his family, and absolutely not equipped for the kind of compassionate self reflection he needs, but instead just ruminating on the idea that something is different about him and that something is wrong. and that it doesn't actually matter what it is that's wrong with him, because that won't help him be a good son.
and then he gets shannon pregnant and his parents can't look him in the eye. so now he has to prove he can be a man. so he proposes and he enlists. because that's what men do. that's what you do to provide, that's what you do for family. and maybe now that he's helping people on a literal battlefield, his parents will finally see how much he is trying. that he's not just the baby, that he wants to be a good son so badly that he'll leave his sick newborn and best friend wife to be shot at halfway across the world. again.
and then he's sent back, and his parents still don't trust him and his best friend wife is gone. his parents hover and poke and prod. and they laugh and say it's because "you're the baby eddie, you'll always be the baby to us." but he knows it's because they think he failed. that he left them just like his sisters did, and now he has nothing to show for it. that he drove his wife away and wasn't enough for his son.
so he lets them help with christopher, and he watches them find a new baby to dote on.

Eddie rolled his eyes leaved the kitchen.
" Sofia! Where are you?!" Why does everyone seem to hate him right now?
" I'm here Eddie, what do you want?" She was smiling, because she knows damn well what was happening.
" Why is Buck here?" Eddie whispered.
" Umh, because he's amazing and everyone enjoys his presence? well, everyone except for you" The damn thing was still smiling.
" Did I tell you I broke up with him?"
Eddie can't look at him right now,
" And everyone wonders why, are you going to tell me one day?" Sofia really knows how to tease him with her annoying voice.
" One day, but not today”
Make me write!
a normal day in the diaz house
Eddie: I swear on my sisters' lives I am a straight man. Hen: SUDDENLY I CAN'T BREATHE, TELL KAREN I LOVE HER. Maddie: I see the light… it's getting closer… Adriana: My heart is shutting down. I can't believe you've done this, Edmundo. Sofia: If I knew I was gonna die today, I would've bullied you more. Eddie: I get Adriana and Sofia, but why are you two "dying" as well? Hen: Honorary big sister figure privileges. Maddie: I am your future sister-in-law, so it counts.
Sofia, answering phone: Hey Buck, yeah, he’s here, wait a second. Adriana, go get Eddie please.
Adriana: Edmundo, te llama tu novio!
Eddie, blushing: You're so annoying, Buck's not my boyfriend!
Adriana, laughing: Tell that to your face.
Eddie, picking up the phone: Hi babe.
