eyes are the mirror of the soul
they reflect a person’s true emotions, mood, and character which are difficult to hide in words
i love how the manga gives us all of that. soukoku’s glances are always an intimate moment
that one moment in dead apple alone says so much. it’s the most soft and intimate look i’ve ever seen, and it’s hard to put into words. you have to feel it. in their eyes is everything they’ve been through over seven years (even despite the time they spent apart)
it’s trust
it’s loyalty
when Dazai looks at Chuuya, it’s always a look of genuine admiration. in the novels, it’s often described as something like, “his gaze softened,” “he smiled gently” all that vanilla bullshit
LET ME REMIND YOU that Dazai’s soft gaze is mostly directed AT CHUUYA
it makes me giggle and kick my feet— I’M FREAKING OUT SERIOUSLY
i also really like how Hoshikawa draws Dazai’s eyes: when he’s with Chuuya, they become lighter, almost sparkling, but with everyone else, they’re completely dark
and what the hell is going on in that moment?! that’s a look of longing and nostalgia for the times when they were mafia members, a terrifying, destructive duo, but still mischievous kids
Chuuya always reacts strongly to everything, so his brows are often furrowed and his gaze is sharp. but when it comes to Dazai, you can often see concern on his face
and oh—
his eyes are full of hurt during their first meeting after several years
i feel like this could be discussed endlessly
