“All I'm saying is we’ve made it this far… surely we can wait another ten weeks.” You say entering the supermarket, you weren’t easily defeated when having arguments. This was hardly even an argument, it was just a discussion about whether or not you find out the gender of the baby. You and Hyunwoo had made it this far into the pregnancy, you thought of just waiting until you actually went into labour to find out. When you thought about it, the ten weeks would likely fly by and then it would be your due date or you had already given birth.
“I know… but won’t you want to coordinate the nursery with certain themes or colours?” Hyunwoo asks picking up a basket with one hand while using his other to combine your fingers with his. Both of you had unintentionally left the apartment with matching outfits. Hyunwoo was wearing a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and a snapback backwards whereas you chose to wear a light white dress falling above your knee. The humidity and heat hadn’t boded well for you and pregnancy but the thought of holding your own newborn in your arms was making the situation easier.
“The baby will be sleeping with us for the first few months. We could just decorate the nursery after the birth…” You pondered on it for a few seconds, you then realised although in theory, it would have been a nice idea, you would have to take care of a baby on top of trying to set up a room.
“But…” Why does there always have to be a but? Your mouth creasing at the sides to form a frown. “Don’t look at me like that.” Hyunwoo repeatedly looked back and forth to you then the shelves pretending to be distracted by the prices. “We both need to take into account our jobs. We’re not going to have time to decorate.” He always had to make the valid points, you thought to yourself.
“You just can’t wait for ten weeks, can you?” Your smile widens knowing what Hyunwoo was like. Hyunwoo grins back. You would have kissed him then and there but the stares from just holding hands were enough to stop you from doing it. You gasped out in pain as the baby started to kick, they must have known you were talking about them.
“Are you okay?” Hyunwoo looks cautiously into your eyes, searching for a reason. You take his hand and place it where the baby kicked. You hoped, they would do it again and to your surprise, they did.
“She’s a strong one.” Hyunwoo faintly chuckles but then realises what he had said, he watched your face for any sign of reaction.
“A girl?” You were a little surprised but as you met Hyunwoo’s eyes you noticed something. “You know!” You exclaimed in a hushed tone. “Who told you!?”
“The envelope containing the gender, I thought was just a random letter… so I opened it.” You couldn’t stay angry at Hyunwoo, the way he explained the story just amused you.
“We’re having a baby girl.” You unexpectedly squealed with joy. Hyunwoo smiles, he scanned the aisle around him and made sure that no one was around before he pulled you briefly in to kiss your lips.
