omg Jiwoo in the back, my queen
Even though your life is always changing, the one thing that has stayed constant is your best friend, Matthew. He’s been there for you since day 1, and you’re so thankful for him. He’s always supported everything you’ve done, and you’ve done the same for him.
Matthew loves to dance and choreograph a lot, so he started dancing classes. You’ve been to a lot of them and watched him make choreographies. You can’t lie, you’ve always wanted to join in, but you always find yourself watching from a corner. Dancing doesn’t come naturally, so whenever you try, you feel stiff and get embarrassed, especially when others are watching.
One day in Matthew’s small dancing studio, you’re sitting in the corner watching him again. His body is rolling and grooving to the beat that’s playing, and you watch as he messes up a few times. He ruffles his hair as he gets frustrated, letting out a loud sigh.
He turns to the back of the studio, where you’re sitting, and gives you a tired smile.
“Hey, [y/n], won’t you come and help me? I think if I teach this choreo to someone else, it’ll help me get better at it,” he begs, walking towards you.
You shake your head hard. “No, Matthew, you know I can’t dance…” you say.
“What do you mean you can’t dance? I’ve seen you bust a move sometimes when you think I’m not watching. Didn’t you tell me you always wanted to learn? Come on! Now’s your chance!” he whines, grabbing your arm and pulling you up.
You get up begrudgingly, finally giving in. Matthew gives you a grin as he pulls you to the center of the studio. He knows how much you’ve been wanting to learn to dance, and you’re thankful for him, even if you’re embarrassed.
“Okay okay so before I put any music on, here’s the first move,” he says. He starts by showing you how he moves his legs, then his arms, then he shows you what both movements look like at the same time.
“Your turn!” he says. You spread out your feet and get ready to do it, but you just can’t. You feel frozen in place and you start to blush as you feel embarrassed.
“I can’t do it!” you say, hiding your face in your hands.
He comes closer to you and places his big hands on yours, moving them away from your face. He gives you a warm smile and you feel more relaxed just looking at him.
“I know you can do it! But if it’s too much, let’s just play the beat and vibe out first,” he says, moving to his phone so he can play the song. Once it starts playing, he immediately nods his head to the beat and tries to moonwalk over to you, making you laugh. As he lets his body loosen to the beat, you try to do the same. I’m with Matthew, he’s my friend, I can do this, you tell yourself.
Your moves start to get bigger and bigger as you get more comfortable, and Matthew cheers you on.
“AYYYY [Y/N], GET THAT ! Hell yeah look at those smooth moves!” he cheers, making you crack up.
Once the song ends, Matthew tries to teach you the choreo again. This time, you feel more loosened up and give the first move a try. Matthew gasps with his jay dropped, giving you an applause.
“Look [y/n], you did !” he says, and you punch his shoulder as you get shy from his teasing.
Matthew continues to slowly teach you the moves, placing his hands on your hips and gently moving them to show you how you should move your hips, or gently pushing your shoulder back to show you all of the details of the choreo. Your face isn’t red now because of how hard you’re working, but because of how much Matthew’s hands keep touching you.
He finally plays the beat and the two of you dance along. Even though you fall a little behind sometimes or slip up, Matthew just gives you a smile and nods at you, urging you to dance through it. You’re having a lot of fun, you can’t lie, and you kind of wish you had done this earlier.
When the two of you get tired, you sit on the ground to rest and drink some water. Matthew suddenly gets quiet, spacing out and fumbling with the cap of his water. When you ask him what’s wrong, he looks up at you and smiles widely.
“Actually, I’ve written a song for you, and I’m wondering if I should play it… Ah, whatever, Imma play it!” he says, suddenly getting up. You’re curious about what kind of song he’s written as he gets up and walks to his phone by the speaker.
As the song starts playing, Matthew starts mouthing along to the lyrics and freestyle dancing.
“Would you be mine, oh baby be mine, baby be mine…”
You laugh at all of his goofiness until you realize what the song’s lyrics are saying. He wrote this for you… Is he asking you to be his? Your mouth opens and your jaw drops without you realizing. Matthew gets flustered seeing you all shocked, and he runs to turn off the song while laughing.
“Do you like it?” he asks from the other side of the room.
“That’s… for me? About me?” you ask.
“Yeah! I…” He takes a deep breath and his smile becomes more serious. “I’ve actually liked you for a long time.” He starts to scratch the back of his neck. Seeing shy Matthew is really different… and cute. “I like you, [y/n]. This is my confession!” He starts to play the song and dances again. Clearly he’s trying to hide how shy he is, and it makes you laugh.
You run up to him when he turns his back for a second while dancing and give him a hug. He freezes up and then places one of his arms around yours.
“I like you too,” you say, and because his back is to you, you can’t see just how much he’s smiling.
“Wait,” he says, “let me give you a proper hug.” He turns around to hug you, but as he’s holding you, he leans in to give you a long kiss. As his soft lips leave yours, both of you are left a blushing mess, laughing the embarrassment away.
“Do you wanna keep dancing now?” he asks, looking to the ground, shyly.
“That sounds nice,” you say, and the two of you walk to the middle of the studio again to dance.
