How do I put a soft-boiled egg in ramen

I am not even sure a soft-boiled egg exists. I have not seen a soft-boiled egg. I have seen a raw egg and a hard-boiled egg. How can a soft-boiled egg be consumed? How can a soft-boiled egg be true? How can a soft-boiled egg be sliced into a ramen? How can one slice what is soft in a brittle shell?

Brought mum for her medical checkup and we ended up at Ya Kun Kaya Toast (亚坤加椰面包) after lunch because mum got coffee craving. Got her Kopi O which is strong black coffee served with sugar while I went for the value set meal, the Kaya French Toast Set. My set comes with a slice of French Toast & kaya (coconut jam), a hot beverage and two perfectly cooked soft-boiled eggs.

PS: In Singapore, our soft-boiled eggs are runny and wobbly, and you crack them open like you would a raw egg, whereas in the West, the white is almost fully cooked - the egg can be topped or peeled like a hard-boiled egg - and the yolk, gooey and runny.

Egg (Celery?) salad

Our housemate donated this odd, miniature baguette-like bread that came with his steak take-out meal from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. The bread is not particularly good, and it was sliced much too thickly, but it served a purpose.

There’s probably a lot more celery in this salad than anything else.

Eggs. Steamed in the Instant Pot for 5 minutes, removed immediately upon timer going off, and plunged into ice water. Came out like a perfect slightly gooey ramen egg but not the perfect hard-boiled egg. Next time will try 6 minutes.

Celery. Carrots. White onion (had half of one lying around and didn’t want to open up a new red onion). Sliced thinly.

Mayo. One raw egg blended up with dijon mustard, olive oil, and apple cider vinegar, using an immersion blender. Came out a little bitter, perhaps due to using the blender on too high a setting (got impatient after thirty seconds because of hunger). Not completely inedible though, just cover it up with more citrus and spice.

Caraway, smoked paprika, cayenne, chipotle and ancho powder, white and black pepper, dijon mustard.

No-Recipe Soft-Boiled Eggs for dinner

If following instructions from us isn’t your jam on a Wednesday night, and you’d prefer to freestyle as we so often do in the middle of the week, please accept this prompt: 

soft-boiled eggs, rice, butter, and soy sauce. Maybe on a bed of soft salad greens? 

All you need to know is, for soft-boiled eggs: Start them in a single layer in a saucepan well covered by lukewarm water, then heat them until the water just boils, turn off the stove, cover the pan and let the eggs stand for 2 minutes. 

Rinse under cold water when the time’s up, peel and cut into your bowl of buttered rice. 

Add soy to taste, you’re welcome.
