What is solarpunk aesthetic week and what happened to solarpunk action week?

Solarpunk Aesthetic Week is a bi-annual event where we celebrate solarpunk aesthetic and, generally, encourage people to bring this to life in their everyday lives. This looks different for everyone and we love to see how everyone engages with it differently.

As for Solarpunk Action Week, Im only aware of it happening in 2021 and another one last year hosted by Solarpunk Presents Podcast

Solarpunk Aesthetic Week and Solarpunk Action Week are similar but different events hosted by different people. I recommend reaching out to them directly if you want to know if they plan on doing another one.

Today I finally culminated a project that has been in the works for a LONG time -- seed bombs!

I started a container compost bin on my balcony during the pandemic to generate the dirt/compost. I researched local, native flowers and pollinator favorites and picked a variety so they would have a chance in any lighting and hopefully produce new blossoms from May-July. Then I waited almost 5 years. Last week I ordered some clay.

Today I gathered my seeds, the powdered clay and a scoop of compost (and let me just say, the compost is SLAMMIN' -- the tea is crazyyy dark, iykyk). Mixed the seeds and clay, then pinches of compost to wet it into balls. Probably should have dried some of the compost out bc it was wet AF so idk if I hit the 1:1 ratio I was aiming for but fuck it we ball!

Literally! I made a few with seeds from a friend's wedding too to see what happens. Those I'll toss into tree beds I think bc they are probably not going to be wildflowers.

update: i finished an ecobrick!

(the rightmost one on the second side isn't complete yet).

while i do feel pretty good generally about these, one major issue I had was that I wasn't up to the minimum density of 0.33 g/ml, but that just means I can't use these for structural load-bearing projects like cob benches. I plan on using these in a cute lil ottoman/end table but hopefully it'll take a while for me to fill up those last 3 bottles! oh and I wrote a substack about ecobricking as well. It's mostly a redux of what I've already posted here, but I think it's still worth checking out if you need a refresher.

Yesterday the weather outdoors was super terrible, so my Solarpunk Action was setting up a little gardening station in the corner of my laundry room so I could get tomato seedlings started.

It’s Solarpunk Action Week!

This week I’m writing a letter to my rep concerning a bit of legislation that didn’t make it through our state’s house. Because posting the unedited letter would be doxing myself, I’m posting a censored version. You can probably figure out the state pretty easily but please don’t try to, thanks.

In order to write the letter I had to find a piece of legislation that interested me. I looked up “‘my state’ climate legislation and then poked around until I found something. I wanted to do something local. I feel like I’m more likely to be heard that way—this guy probably has like 1000-2000 constituents, so I don’t think my letter will get lost in the scuffle.

I tried to use persuasive language and write clearly and respectfully. Here are some of the sources I used to format it: [1], [2]. The second one is for children but I still found it pretty helpful. Your Rep’s mailing address or email should be publicly available online, which makes it pretty easy to send.

I would highly recommend doing this! I learned so much about local politics researching it that even if I don’t get a response (which I probably will) it definitely wasn’t a waste of time.

Solarpunk Action Week GOOOOOO

Y'all it is Solarpunk Action Week and we are STOKED for it! Christina's already been posting videos (unfair; she totally has a six-hour headstart lol), she's got the writing group meeting on Friday, and I'm looking forward to skilling UP when it comes to gardening, landscaping, building, and all-around 'round-the-house solarpunky improvements.

Who knows, I might knock together my courage and try to patch up those pairs of jeans using the sewing machine, of which I am very afraid for some reason.

Anyway. What are you fine folks up to for SPAW?
