Hey there. I found your blog looking through the dragon magic tag. I wanted to ask, what is your experiences with dragons like? Do you do anything specific to bond with them? I'm trying to learn how to better bond with my own companions due to the fact I'm always super busy
Hi there! My experiences with dragons have always been wide and varied - they’re extremely individualistic creatures; even dragons of the same color or species are very unique when it comes to preferences. I couldn’t tell you one thing I do with the dragons I’ve met. One dragon I’ve worked with adored learning about politics - others love walks in nature, or watching cop dramas, or only receiving crystal gifts. The net is simply far too wide to focus on one type of activity that “works” for me and my companions.
If you’re stumped for things to do with your dragon companion, I highly recommend you ask them! For your own companions, have you been provided information about them, or if you didn’t find them through a shop, do you have information on them? What are the activities you like to do that align with their interests? You may be surprised how willing they are to read a novel with you, or binge your favorite show. Even if it’s not their favorite thing in the world, most of the time they’re just happy to find new things to chat with you about, or to receive new context for our world.
Some might say this is an overly casual and modern form of interacting with spirits, to which I say, yeah, it is. It’s not traditional, but spirit work is allowed to evolve and be as modern as it likes. I view my spirit companions as friends with magical benefits - my favorite part about being with them are the relaxed, comforting times. Bonding doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t have to involve going way out of your way to perform it!
I’ve had mention from others before that it can be kind of hard to focus on chatting with a companion when doing another activity like reading, watching TV, or playing video games - which is totally fine. The way I recommend circumventing this is to pause what you’re doing every so often, at a big plot twist, or after the introduction of a new character, or even in between a chapter or episode, and asking your companion what they’re thinking so far. Are they liking it? What do they think of what’s happening in the show? Do they share your opinions on your favorite characters or plot points? This is not only a great way to spend time together, but also to get to know about your companion’s worldview, and how they relate to you and the things you love.
So, don’t worry about being super busy! There’s no pressure to have a formal sitdown if your channel with communication with your companions is already open. Just invite them to a movie night! ;)
