For last week's Sommerfest, we completed our issue #8! You can read and download the freshly printed magazine from our google drive here. This time - as you may have guessed from Annalena's rather brilliant and gorgeous cover picture - the topic was future:
"Who reads prefaces anyway?
Between proofreading, editing, formatting, picking a cover image and finally printing, there is a lot to do in the final days of putting together another issue of our little magazine. Out of them all, writing the preface feels most like a chore. It’s repetitive and unimaginative and thus, tiring. Who wants to spend time and energy on saying “this is a collection of texts on the topic of Future, which of course you already know because the cover says so, but let me tell you how uniquely important this topic is for the human condition, just like our last one was” when they could be writing stories about spaceships instead?
Really, why is anyone doing anything when they could be writing stories about spaceships instead?
Luckily for all of us though, people do. They go out into the world, discover its mysteries, connect the dots, come up with exciting new ways to experience, organise and shape it and thus, create the future. A tiny piece of future we created is in your hands right now, in the form of this magazine.
So, sit down in your reading chair, grab a beverage of your choosing, and enjoy our texts. Or don’t. Maybe you would rather write a story about spaceships. Or about dragons or love or a skateboarding cockatoo. Maybe stop writing at all and go build the spaceship.
Because the future is, above all else, what you make it."
