🏳️🌈 for Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Zeus, and Demeter
🏳️🌈 for a sexuality headcanon !
hera's sexuality is definitely very intrinsically connected to her role as wife, mother, queen, and a goddess of all of the above. while still queer, i think hera has spent a very long time denying that part of her identity - or at least, never acknowledging it beyond the privacy of her own thoughts. she is, in many ways, expected to be the archetype of a perfect wife. dutiful, loyal, and ultimately, probably heterosexual. or, at least, her sexuality should not extend beyond the relationship with her husband.
hera is a bit of a rebel, though. she is those things (dutiful, loyal) when it suits her, but she's not necessarily confined to them. nevertheless, that expectation and pressure (from society, not necessarily her husband) has kept her contained in many ways, and it takes a long time for hera to admit to, accept, and explore her own queerness.
poseidon is queer, of course. this part is not news nor is it even a headcanon, lol. however, i think the interesting piece is that, while poseidon was always more liberal with his sexuality than most, it is his ascension to his role as king of the sea that sort of cements this trait. i like to imagine sea deities as being a lot more fluid (in many capacities) than their counterparts in other domains, and this includes sexuality. attraction, romance, and even sex are not things to be contained in little boxes down there, and so when poseidon begins to come into his own as king, part of that is an exploration of his sexuality in ways he may not have attempted before.
hades is an interesting case as well, in that he is undoubtedly queer - but his attraction, relationships, and sex in general have been so wound up in other parts of his identity (gender, for example, but also the Horrors he's experienced) and so a deeper exploration of his sexuality took a long time. he became quite confident in his attraction to women fairly easily (though developing connections took longer) - but his attraction to men was infinitely more complicated. he discovered this early! in my headcanons, his first relationship ever was with a man, but that fucked him up real good and he sort of shut the door on that part of him for a long time. now, he's more accepting of it this part of him, but he's also too obsessed with persephone to explore much beyond that.
zeus is attracted to any and all genders, but his experience with attraction differs based on the gender of the person. zeus tends to be far more flexible with women, and is typically more secure in these relationships, comfortable taking on a more submissive role in the relationship if that's desired, or a more dominant one. with men, he tends to be a bit more... cautious in what kind of role he takes. he finds himself slipping naturally into being the more dominant one, taking control, calling the shots, being more of the leader. he's less willing to budge on that when he's with a man, which means if it does happen, that's a huge display of trust.
demeter is a very sexually liberated woman, and i love that for her. she's unmarried, interested in taking her fair share of partners, and has never felt compelled to fit into a particular mould. however, in her past, she's mostly only ever explored an attraction to men - it's not until many years later that she began exploring her attraction to women, and in doing so, discovered she does have a bit more of a preference for women now than she does men. she's still bi, she's just had her eyes opened to the possibilities lol.
