Brienne let out what sounded like a contented sigh and looked up at the sky. Jaime rolled onto his back as well to look at the full moon. Jaime didn’t think he’d ever seen it look so bright, or realized just how many stars were up there.
“It’s so quiet here,” Brienne said. “No traffic, no loud noises. I’d never guess we were in a large city.”
“Mmm.” Jaime never gave the background noise of living in the city much thought, but he supposed someone who’d lived her life in a small town would notice it. He turned his head to look at her.
The moon made her blonde hair look almost silver. The light application of makeup hid some of her freckles, but not all. Her lipstick had managed to withstand dinner and her nervous attempts to bite it off, leaving her lush, sensuous mouth clearly delineated. Jaime raised himself up on his elbow again and moved to kiss her. He gently brushed his mouth against hers, not wanting to spoil the beauty of the night but unable to resist.
