„So what are you really feeling?“
AU Prompt: Sophia is Snow White and Riley is the Hunts(wo)man who's been ordered to take her life.
The Hicks family was known for its brave and strong men. Fierce soldiers and loyal citizens. These men would die for their homeland. And they did. When their great King died mysteriously and the Queen replaced him, they voiced their opinions and died "in battle." Riley never believed them. Neither did William's wife. It'd been a little over a year since the last male in the Hicks family died and Riley was left to move in with her sister-in-law and niece. It was during this time when the Queen's men came looking for her, or rather him. William's death had been unreported and so he was still believed to be living in a cottage not too far from the kingdom. They removed themselves after the King's rein ended. They came looking for William Hicks only to find his sister. After seeing the way she handled the ax in her hand, they believed she was good enough and gave her a proposal, which she declined, not wanting to serve a Queen she did not like.
"What if you could see your brother again?"
It didn't take much to agree after the Queen made that offer. Apparently some prisoner had escaped into the forest surrounding the kingdom and they needed someone who knew the area. Her family had been living on that land for years. They ventured off into the forest any chance they got. She knew the forest like the back of her hand. She wasn't one to ask questions about who it was in particular they were looking for, but Riley had her doubts on whether this person was truly a criminal. She didn't trust the Queen at all. What if this was someone that the Queen didn't like? What if she was a revolutionary? Still, all she had to do was return the girl to the Queen and she'd bring William back. She heard the Queen had these magical abilities but didn't know she could raise someone from the dead. Riley chose not to think twice on that. She wanted to trust that the Queen would be able to bring back her brother.
Riley didn't want the other men to get lost in the forest so she made them stay in the opening, however she wasn't sure how to hunt for a human. For animals it was easy. There were animals all around the forest, but in this care, only one human was in the area. She kept her walk quiet, careful not to step on any fallen branches. She had long perfected this silent walk for hunts. She kept close to the ground and thought about where a human on the run would go to in the forest. She doubted that the prisoner knew her way around. She'd look for a place that would provide shelter. It's possible she would climb the trees, but the trees weren't suited for an easy climb.
She wasn't quick to give up and when night was close to falling, she caught sight of human tracks. She had to follow them quickly before they would be lost in the night. She wasn't going to start a torch for fear of giving herself away. Before she saw the girl, she heard her. As she looked around she caught sight of her hair, which looked as if it was lit on fire as the sun set. She paused for a moment, lost in the view, but then remembered what she had come for.
"Got'cha!" Riley exclaimed as she grabbed the girl's arm. She cried out and attempted to pull away, but Riley had a strong grip on her. "C'mon," she said, annoyed by her already.
She yelled at Riley to release her. She was practically begging. Riley wasn't listening. That was what all prisoners wanted. "She's going to kill me!"
Riley stopped momentarily, but shrugged it off and continued walking. "She said she wanted you alive. If she wanted t' kill you. She would have told me dead or alive."
"Please!" She cried out and grabbed Riley to face her.
She could see the pure fear in her eyes and wondered if it was worth it. What if the Queen was going to kill her? A life for a life. Would her brother approve of that? Who was this girl anyway? She was about to ask when she saw the light of torches not so far away. The girl seemed to cling to Riley after she noticed them as well.
"Sorry, but the Queen is givin' a mighty fine price for you." Riley said, not even able to look at the other girl. She felt guilty for doing it, but she really wanted to see her brother. The prisoner tried to escape once more but Riley wasn't letting her.
The Queen's men gathered around and the main one applauded at Riley's work. "Took you long enough, Hunter."
"Would have taken you longer. Now, gimme what I asked."
The crowd of men let out scattered laughs and Riley's eyebrows furrowed not knowing what was so funny. The main man took a step forward, smirking. His teeth and eyes glinted wickedly at Riley and she reached for her ax. "Give him t' me!" She commanded, pulling her ax out with a whoosh.
"You foolish girl," he spat at her. "The only way you'll see your brother is when you are dead yourself. Now give us the girl!"
Riley charged forward and hit him in the stomach with the eye of the ax. He got his breath knocked out of him and landed into the crowd of men behind him. The prisoner managed to escape out of Riley's grip and ran. She contemplated chasing after her, but instead chose to give her some time to get away. The Queen's men pulled out their swords believing they would easily defeat her, but they didn't know who they were up against. Night had already fallen, which should have given them an advantage with their black armor, but Riley was quick on her feet where they weren't. She was strong in her swing in ways they couldn't be. She didn't kill them, but managed to maneuver herself around their bulky selves and easily slipped into the night while they fought among themselves believing it was her. She chuckled at how stupid they were.
It didn't take long before she caught up with the prisoner. She wasn't as stealthy as Riley was. "With the noise you're makin' they'll hear you a mile away," Riley had told her as she crept up on the red-head. Her surprise rewarded her with a punch to the face to which the prisoner immediately apologized for. Riley did nothing but laugh. She deserved that, whether it was by accident or not. She almost handed her over. It was a despicable thing.
"Why did you follow me?"
"Way I see it," Riley said after she had gotten her nose to stop bleeding, "you'll die out here without me."
"Why not just let me die then? They'll kill you too when they find you."
"Oh, I'd like t' see 'em try. However, if you keep stompin' your feet like that they'll find us faster than if we had torches."
The prisoner started to speak, having been offended at Riley's words. She responded by simply picking her up and lugging her to the nearest tree that would provide shelter and obscurity. She squirmed for a while and ordered to be put down but shortly stopped and cooperated. Once Riley found a tree that she thought was good enough, she dropped the prisoner down and allowed her to take up most of the spot underneath the tree. "You rest up for tomorrow. I know just the people t' help us and it's a long way to 'em." Riley gave her a look, even though she doubted the prisoner could see her and rested against the tree, ax in hand. She glanced over at the prisoner and muttered, "I hope you're ready for quite an adventure."
ooc; Merry Christmas, Alyssa
Sophley :| I knew this moment would come..
The Magic Moment: I think the moment that Riley realized how much she cared about Sophia was when they argued about Nexus. She made her doubt her loyalty to Nexus which is something she didn't exactly feel with Lyla. She understood Lyla's position and respected that, but with Sophia, Riley felt fear that she would lose someone she was starting to care about all because of the people she worked for. When she saw Sophia that upset, she promised herself that she would do anything she could to make sure she wouldn't see that again. She didn't want to hurt Sophia anymore and is still (in her mind) keeping her word.
Why it works: Sophia has a nurturing and sweet side to her that Riley would automatically be drawn to. Riley tends to be on the sensitive side and I don't think Sophia would easily hurt her as others would. I think that's what would made this relationship really strong. Sophia would support Riley emotionally and in turn Riley would be some sort of stability for Sophia. Riley would be someone she could trust without Sophia fearing that Riley would betray it because if there's one thing Riley is, she's loyal to the people she cares about. I think Riley would help Sophia on her tendency to doubt herself because Riley is a positive person and can be somewhat of a cheerleader for whenever Sophia feels like she can't do something. She honestly believes Sophia can do anything. And I think Riley has the patience to go through that with Sophia since she kind of did in the beginning with the trust thing. Also, Riley tends to be domineering in relationships and I think Sophia would be fine to give Riley that control that she needs. Sophia's a nice constant thing in Riley's life and Riley's mental health would benefit from that greatly.
Why it doesn't: Riley is very fast paced sometimes and I think that would be bothersome to Sophia. There's a possibility of Riley becoming bored in the relationship if Sophia caters too much to Riley's needs. Riley's a tricky one. She'll be hurt if you say no to her too many times, but she wouldn't like it if you always said yes. She likes to be kept on her toes, but not all the time. Riley's very fickle and I think that uncertainty might do some damage to Sophia since she's not the most confident person out there. There's also a possibility that Sophia won't tell Riley when she's upset and Riley isn't someone who would pick up hints that well. She might think Sophia's fine when she actually isn't. This might lead to some passive-aggression which Riley does not like at all. Then again, most of these obstacles would really be the mistakes of an early relationship, which I think would prove to be difficult, but after that it would be smooth sailing. Positives outweigh the negatives so to speak.
The Confession: Well, Riley would have to be very very sure of Sophia's feelings before she told her own. Some ways Riley would try to see would be how she reacted to some more than friendly touching. But Riley's pretty obvious with her emotions so Sophia should in the very least have gotten hints before Riley would admit to her feelings. The constant flirtation would be something to look for. Riley does that initially, but if she keeps going then that would make it pretty obvious. Anyway, Riley would ultimately do it with a kiss. She's good with letting actions convey her feelings. Riley would make the first move since she likes being in control and it makes her comfortable.
I don't care what nobody says We're gonna have a baby
