Character Name: Sophia Alessi Age (in 2017): 33 Appearance: Sophia has short hair now! She really wanted a fresh change so she went ahead and got her hair cut. After she had her baby, she still had a bit of her preggo fat, especially in the chest and hip area, so she got really annoyed with having to buy new clothes. Place of residence: Washington Roommates (if applicable): Nico and Cody Alessi Occupation: An accountant for a small shop Goals: To provide the best life for her family as possible. To keep in touch with her NY family Top five relationships (friends, family, etc…):
Lyla - The #1 person Sophia will miss most from NY
Nico and Cody - They count as one because she would never dream of coming between them.
Riley - Sophia worries about her a lot since she never got the chance to get in touch with her before she left NY. Riley was the first to tell Sophia how she believed that Sophia can control her ability instead of having her life be controlled by her ability, and Riley's still really dear to Soph so it made her sad not being able to see her.
Paivi - Sophia adores Paivi. Ever since they first spoke to each other as pen pals, Sophia was convinced that Paivi had a very kind heart.
Akala - Probably her oldest friend outside of Claude and Peter. Sophia wishes more than anything to stay in in NY and help Akala through her rough patch.
Significant events/development from vol. 2:
Sophia specifically took a job that wasn't on the field because she didn't want to partake in all the action. Her main goal was just to avoid it as much as possible and yet she found herself in the middle of bad situations over and over. The thing that probably messed Sophia pretty badly was when both Lyla and Nico were captured by Nexus (both on separate occasions). With Lyla's situation, all she did was just sit at home crippled with fear and waited for somebody to take action. After helping Lyla deal with the aftermath, she realized that she didn't want to make the same mistake again and intentionally broke PROTECT rules to exchange PROTECT's captive for Nexus'.
On top of that she broke the rules again for not reporting both Akala and Paivi when they told her they were going to join the Rogues. By the end of volume 2 she came to the conclusion that she wasn't as virtuous and heroic as her other co-workers. She was selfish for putting her family and friends first before doing what's right. But that has its bright side as well because at least she has the strength and the confidence to do what she wants in life instead of just following what others tell her to do.
Significant events/development during time jump:
After the family moves into their new place, Sophia starts looking for possible places to apply to. Unfortunately not that many places want to hire somebody who's going to go on maternity leave soon but she found this cute little boutique shop (the irony is great) that needed an accountant. She probably made the Alessi bros life a living hell with her mood swings and cravings but at least things got a lot better once Lyla came to stay with them for a little. It turns out all she needed was her sister.
And then the whole family celebrated as they welcomed baby Fiona around December!!!!!!! Much to Sophia's surprise most of the PROTECT staff showed up thanks to Cody's girlfriend.
How has your character been affected by the plot (this sort of goes with the one above): She's even more worried for her peeps back in NY but pretty damn happy she's on the other side of the country.
Anything else you would like to add: It's easy to expect people to become action heroes during times like these. That sort of "never again" mentality pushes people to take action sometimes but Sophia just didn't want that for herself. She started off being very self centered; she wanted to be in control of herself and not be a threat to others and that was it. Five years later and she's willing to put step up when she needs to for the sake of her friends and family. I'm very happy with where her story ended up and I definitely did not expect it to end this way when I started playing her two years ago. She makes me proud and I'm very thankful that everybody has enjoyed writing with her.
ONCE UPON A TIME AU in which Jefferson finds Ariel lost in Storybrooke and takes care of her.
"What’s your name?" he asked but the woman with the burning-red hair just shook her head. Jefferson frowned. "You know, I can’t help you if you refuse to speak." Her eyes were glowing in despair, eagerly looking around the room as if she searched for something. He followed her eyes as soon as she froze, pointing at an object to his right. A notebook. Maybe she isn’t able to speak. That thought actually didn’t occur to him until now, but after all, it made sense. Wordlessly he handed her the notebook and a pen and she took it, mouthing a ‘thank you’. Seconds after that, she wrote something on the paper and turned it around, so he could read it. Ariel it said. Her name was Ariel.
I have good news and bad news
[She laughed, even though there was a pain in her chest. Bittersweet is what they would call it. She grabbed onto Sophia’s hand and pressed it to her cheek as she smiled— or tried to smile at least.] Shh… [She shook her head lightly.] Don’t be sorry. No, this is for your child and I understand completely, believe me. Just— I’m going to miss you so much. [She sniffled.] But I can deal with that. If it means you’re safe, and your family is safe. Where— are you moving to?
[Sophia had always been able to help take Akala's pain away but now she was the one causing it. More than anything, she wanted to use her ability to take the pain away and help her, but she knew it was nothing more than a temporary fix.] Washington. Will you visit us sometimes?
I don’t care what nobody says We’re gonna have a baby
I have good news and bad news
[It was almost impossible for Kaye to believe what was actually happening. They had only begun to start talking again— they couldn’t just sever their ties. She took a deep breath, learning to accept what her friend had just said. It must have been this hard for Sophia to see Kaye walk away in the hospital. Every little ounce of Akala wanted to beg Sophia to stay. She had no idea— not a single clue— if she could make it without her. But she couldn’t have been so selfish, not when it meant that Sophia could be happy.] I wish you all the happiness in the world, Soph. [She didn’t want to cry but she really didn’t feel any will inside of her to stop herself from doing so. After her break up, she could only take so much to break.] You deserve it.
I'm not the only one who deserves happiness. [Sophia offered the end of her sleeve to wipe away Akala's tears. On any other given day, the thought of her shirt being stained with running mascara and such would've bothered her enough to stop her from going through with this. Slowly but surely, Sophia was learning that she had to start putting others' needs before hers. Akala was important to her and seeing her this way tore Sophia up inside.] I'm sorry, Kaye. I wish there was another way...
I have good news and bad news
[Kaye turns to Sophia, concerned with how her tone had changed. She was going to joke about herself immediately accepting any offer Sophia had whether it be throwing the baby shower or becoming the child’s god mother. But she kept the joke to herself, guessing that wasn’t what she was going to say.] You know you can tell me anything.
Of course I know. You're one of the ones that I can trust with my life with no questions asked. But... As you know, it's not about just my life anymore. [She glances down at her stomach.] I would stay here with you, my sister, and everybody else for as long as I could, but New York's just not a place I want my child to grow up in.
I have good news and bad news
[Akala’s eyes widen, stiffening a bit.] That’s scary, oh my god. What if—[She thinks of herself in that scenario.] no. That would never happen. [She shakes her head, dismissing the thought. But she actually smiles when Sophia said she was family.] Thanks, Soph. I love you, too. [Kaye giggles.]
Nothing to thank me for. You'll always be family to me. [Her laughter dies down after she realizes the important bit of information she still has to break to Akala.] Can I tell you something, Kaye?
I have good news and bad news
Yeah I think our current circumstances would shock all of our past selves. -he smiles and hugs her tight- You will be a great mom you hear me Soph? -his voice begins to crack as he holds the redhead close-
I'm going to miss you so much, Jack. Will you please look after everybody for me when I'm gone?
Sun Päiväsi Koittaa (Päivi & Sophia)
Päivi shook her head with brimming eyes and the brigthest of smiles at Sophia’s gesture. “I…I was, yeah, I just wasn’t….I really wasn’t expecting it to be you. Gemma is…I mean, she’s great and stuff, but she’s so…professional, you know? I didn’t even know that she remembered that we’re friends…or whether I told her in the first place.” She’s in reconnaissance, duh, came immediately followed by a wave of gratitude for the brunette who’d not only been wiling to listen to a story that probably would’ve put Päivi on a list of villains for most other people, but who’d also been willing to share so much of her own story. Päivi recreated Sophia’s playful gesture: “Ta-daa, my new home! I apologize for it. Whoever furnished this clearly had terrible taste.”
Acting downcast on purpose, that meant she was better, right? Having the energy left to playfully pretend that something bugged her that she was aware was actually currently saving her life. She studied Sophia for a moment without saying anything, only taking in the bright red waves of hair that had once greeted her every morning at her first proper job and the slim fingers that had held her hands on her proudest of days. It was okay. Everything would be alright. She was alive, she hadn’t ended up in a police cell, and in that moment, Päivi started to believe in normality for herself again.
She held up a finger to indicate to Sophia to wait for a moment, then dashed into the kitchen to fetch another mug. “Are you allowed to chill on the couch at work?”, she asked before slowly sitting down herself and taking a deep breath. Normality would still require at least one major decision: “Sophia, what am I gonna do now? Do you think I can actually stay here? Not in this apartment, I mean. In New York.”
Sophia tried to hold back her smile and outright failed. "Yes, that's Gemma Marston alright. The intimidation thing works quite well on the criminals from what I've heard. She's rather nice, but I hope she didn't give you too hard of a time regardless." She knew Gemma wouldn't have done anything that wasn't out of the handbook or anything that gave her close friend any stress, but the need to say that was there nonetheless. Sophia gave the place a quick scan, turning this way and that way, and realized how preoccupied she was with her own thoughts and never really even took notice of her surroundings. Maybe that was just one of the effects of having both her and Paivi in the same room. Every other detail just blended into the background. "Good thing one of my top sales person at the old boutique has much better taste, right?"
"As long as there's nobody to jump out and tell me not to slack off on the job, I think I'll be able to manage sitting on the couch for a few," she chuckled, taking her place onto the couch in front of her. Sophia pulled her scarf up again after feeling it loosen a little. This was a happy moment that shouldn't be ruined by her own family issues. She reached out to touch Paivi's arm gently. "If New York is where you want to be then I don't see why you can't stay. You're in good hands now. --I don't mean my own specifically, but all of PROTECT's. You came to this city all those years ago and made a life for yourself here. There's no reason why you can't do the same again. You're still a very good person inside and things will work itself out."
Don't You (Forget About Me) || Ginger Duo
Lyla laughed with some difficulty, clapping a hand over her mouth and shaking her head at the fond memory. “Some of those words were pretty difficult to explain, I’ll admit,” she replies, hugging her injured arm to her chest for some semblance of comfort. Going over to her sister, wrapping her arms around her, would only make the heartbreak she felt all the worse. Two sad empaths didn’t make for a happy couple. The tears blurring her vision bubbled over, spilling onto her cheeks before she quickly wiped them away, embarrassed. “I’m sorry.”
Soph, as always, was trying to keep strong for her. Enduring pain and shouldering the burden so her little sister wouldn’t have to feel more than she had already felt. But, to Lyla, it hurt more knowing that her sister was hurting, than feeling the hurt herself. Which was why Soph’s moving away was good. They would be so far away, so far removed from all the pain, the death, the illness and corruption that it would fade from their minds and seem as if it was just a bad dream. Her niece or nephew would grow up in a happy world — a world where he would be accepted, whether or not he had powers.
And that was when Lyla Martin realized she had a purpose in the office, a need to be there other than to organize files and keep the archives in tact. She needed to be there, working and offering her life up to chance, to ensure her sister’s children were safe. Because, for as long as her sister had known her, Soph had kept Lyla’s best interest in her mind. It was only natural, to protect the products of the most important person in her life. Her love for her sister topped the love she felt for Eric, for her best friends, for her books. And now, even for her parents.
"And y-you have to show me what your new home looks like," she breathes, inhaling and exhaling slowly, as to control the shaking of her shoulders. "so I know where you’ll p-put all the books I send you. And — and, you can tell the little Luckmaster, w-when they come around, that their cool Auntie Lyla is g-going to spoil them rotten. You won’t e-even want to be around them when I’m done with your kid."
Up until now everything fell smoothly into place, as if her whole life was a puzzle that built a picture of her and her two best guys moving to Washington to start a new life. Everything made so much sense that she often pictured herself back home with great clarity. Every detail came to her mind with crisp definition, but when she was with Lyla the picture became blurry, much like her vision was now as her eyes welled up with tears. Seven years ago she never even so much knew Lyla existed. Sophia was independent; she lived her life not needing anybody for anything. But now she was crumbling on the inside because all she needed was her sister.
"I'm sorry too, Ly," Sophia finally dropped everything and wrapped her arms around Lyla. "I'm so, so, so sorry." After the tears fell, much to her dismay, she couldn't do anything but apologize at that point. Her arms tightened around Lyla. The embrace took her back to the moment after their father released Lyla from his control, except this time she was the one reduced to a shaking mess with overwhelming regret and sadness. "H-how am I going to do this without you? Who's going t-to make me laugh and be t-there when the little one learns to read?"
Then came the realization that maybe Lyla wasn't the one who needed help and support out of this relationship. It was always Sophia who needed Lyla. Even throughout all those times where she looked after her sister, Sophia was completely dependent on having Lyla around. Even if Lyla wasn't immediately within reach, Sophia took great comfort in knowing that they were at least in the same city. "I'm so selfish," she let out a broken up chuckle. "As if asking Nico and Cody to p-pack up everything and leave wasn't enough."
WRITE ME A STORY ABOUT SIBLINGS... pt. 1
I have good news and bad news
Yeah— [She sighs.] It was his decision to leave. But I was the one who told him to go. [She tries to smile casually.] I guess you’re right. You sound like you’re talking from experience, though. I bet it’ll work. I mean you managed to snag someone like Nico. And now you’re starting a family with him? Wow.
Somebody tried to get back with me and I kept telling him no. Then this happened. [She points to her eye. Just thinking of that makes her shiver, but the thought of Nico, Cody, and their new family member brings a smile to her face.] You know you're like my family too. I snagged you long before I had Nico.
I have good news and bad news
Yeah I’m taking Maxwell night classes. -he rolls his eyes playfully before hearing the big news-Wait. You’re serious! You’ve got a baby in that tummy! Oh my gosh.. Wow! Sophia that’s amazing! You’re gonna be a mommy! I’m so happy for you guys..
Yeah! I couldn't believe it either. Who would've thought back in 2012 that this would've happen for me?
I have good news and bad news
You don’t mind that I take him back now, do you? I’m pretty sure having him around again would help so much more than ice cream does. This is also means I can talk to you a bit more often now.
Hmm? --Well... I don't know any details about this relationship but with the way I see break ups is that if he broke up with you then he's a fool for letting you go and definitely doesn't deserve to have you back. If you broke up with him then obviously something in your lives aren't lining up and you should stick with your gut.
I have good news and bad news
I hope you didn’t think that you could wait until the last minute without me finding out. You know me better than that. -he smirks- No , but I’m glad you brought it up before I began the interrogation.
Always ahead of the game. --Oh, are you an interrogator in training now? [She chuckles.] Surprise, I'm having a baby.
