Not to be totally weird. But what if Rafe confessed to the ~murders~ he's committed because he actually feels like shit over it and he's trying to be better for his girl? And the cops are on the way so he tells his girl and they lay on the couch together until the cops show up, not saying anything, just being together, enjoying what little time they have left before it all goes to shit. Rafe goes willingly. His girl is crying, but it's okay, because she'll see me again, baby, I promise. You're gonna be just fine. No one puts up a fight. The pogues are happy about it, throw a party over it, but Rafe's girl... she has to sleep in his bed alone for the first time. It's cold and empty, and she wakes up twenty times that night to look for Rafe before crying herself to sleep again.
