【上山安居指導会】

3月7日(金) 笠間市高寅寺様を会場に上山安居研修を行いました。

この春、永平寺に上山される同寺のお弟子さんに着物の着方や応量器の作法、合掌やお拝の進退など修行をするにあたって基本的な事を指導させていただきました。

一生懸命指導を受ける姿から、これまでの生活を離れ、修行に臨む高い志しが感じられました。

3月になりましたが、まだまだ雪の残る寒さ厳しい永平寺での修行の日々となります。堅固法身、修道無難なる事を願います。

Issan Dorsey, Roshi, who famously transformed from a wild drug addicted traveling drag queen to a Zen Monk, which misadventures are hilariously & richly recounted in his biography “Street Zen” by David Schneider,  here at the Hartford Street Zen Center & Maitri Aids Hospice where he was Abbott and which he founded in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood.  He himself succumbed to Aids in 1990, and  his successor at the center was none other than poet Philip Whalen, who had recently become a Sensei. Street Zen, out of print for ages,  was just reissued by Shambhala Publications last June.

Kōbun Otogawa was an Sōtō Zen priest.

Born: 1 February 1938, Kamo, Niigata, Japan

Died: 26 July 2002, Switzerland

Here are five facts about Kōbun Chino Otogawa:

Zen Lineage – He was a Japanese Sōtō Zen priest and disciple of Suzuki-roshi, making him part of the same lineage that brought Zen strongly into the West.

Teacher in the U.S. & Europe – In the 1960s he moved to the United States, where he became a Zen teacher and later taught in Switzerland and other parts of Europe as well.

Steve Jobs’ Zen Teacher – He was a spiritual mentor to Steve Jobs during Jobs’ younger years, influencing his perspective on life, simplicity, and design.

Unique Teaching Style – Unlike some Zen masters who were stern and formal, Kōbun was known for his poetic, spontaneous, and often mysterious teaching style.

Tragic Death – In 2002, he died while trying to save his five-year-old daughter, Maya, from drowning in a lake in Switzerland; both sadly passed away.

［歎仏会研修］

7月9日　美浦村永巖寺様にて、6教区大洞院御住職　佐々木道雄老師を講師に迎え、

歎仏会（たんぶつえ）に関する進退や声明（しょうみょう）の研修会を行いました。

「歎仏会」というのは、仏様の功徳をたたえる法要で、お唱えする偈文には特別な節を用いる事（声明）が特徴です。

お経本の中には偈文の脇に節を表した記号が付され、それに沿って抑揚をつけてお唱えいたします。

音楽の五線譜とは異なり、唱える人、地域や修行道場によって節のつけ方が多少違っているようです。

今回講師をお務めいただいた佐々木老師は、總持寺祖院や正法寺で※維那（いの）を務め、同じ修行道場で修行された会員とのご縁で声明の講義を行ってくださいました。

後半では、法堂（本堂）にて歎仏会法要を実際に動いてみながらご指導いただきました。

［第50回　緑蔭禅の集い会議］

6月9日、水戸市天徳寺様の山門横にあります精進料理店「露蓮　LOHAS」様(@lohas_shojin_mito)を会場にお借りし、今年度の「緑蔭禅の集い」についての会議を行いました。

今回で第50回を記念する今年の緑蔭禅の会場は、神奈川県南足柄市にあります曹洞宗大雄山最乗寺様(@daiyuuzan_saijouji)にて開催することに決定いたしました。

最乗寺様は御祈祷や天狗伝説などで有名ですが、専門修行道場として多くの修行僧を有しており、我々茨曹青の中にも最乗寺様で安居（修行）させていただいた会員も多くおり、以前には令和4年度の研修旅行でも訪問させていただき、山内の見学や会員の御祈祷もしていただきました。

そして今回、緑蔭禅の会場としてご提案させていただいた所、快く承諾していただきました。

現在、詳細な日程の調整などを調整し、皆様の良い経験となるよう計画を進めておりますので、続報を楽しみにお待ちください。
