"Today, we remember. And rise."
They were only children—
with notebooks in their hands,
and freedom in their hearts.
They marched into history
so we could walk into the future.
📍Soweto. 1976.
The ground shook under the weight of their courage.
The world was forced to look.
And listen.
Today is not just about the past.
It’s about you.
Your voice. Your fight. Your light.
You are the continuation of their dream.
So speak. Build. Heal.
And when the world tries to forget—
remind them:
✨ We are still marching.
✨ We are still rising.
✨ We are the legacy.
Happy Youth Day. 🇿🇦
Today - June 16 - in South Africa 🇿🇦 we celebrate Youth Day to commemorate the achievements of the youth in freeing The country from the evils of Apartheid. June 16 1976 was the day of the Soweto Uprising. On this day, Hector Pieterson was assassinated by police after attending a peaceful protest against the forceful implementation of Afrikaans as a mandatory language in Bantu education, which would have left millions of learners unable to get a decent education due to them not speaking Afrikaans. The photo of 13 year old Hector being carried by another youth after being shot caused an outcry around the world which would ultimately spark continued civil upheaval that would finally lead to the end of the tyranny of Apartheid in South Africa in 1994. #youthday #youthday2022 #hectorpieterson #sowetouprising #africanyouth #southafrica #southafricanyouth #southafricanyouthday #soweto #sowetouprising #freedom #freesouthafrica #africaunite #mayibuyeiafrika #mzansi #afriquedusud #vivasouthafrica #freeafrica #africanboy #africanportraits (at South Africa) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce21qpiMuGQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I was invited by @block88conceptstores as a guest artist on June 16 Soweto Uprising using this beautiful product that @Palladium_za gave it to me to customise. The theme was silent protest in raising issues that we currently facing today such as GENDER BASED VIOLENCE . I used South African flag colours mixed with feminine colours and kiddie illustrations simple because we have more victims of woman and children. I also had an nostalgic touch with my characters some are indigenous tribal characters just to remind us where we from as a nation (strong family structure) and I juxtaposed them with futuristic neon colours to give us optimistic views of the future where we going. They gave me this pair to own but I think it would be meaningful to give it to a victim of GBV just to apologise on behalf of my Gender. If you ARE or you KNOW any reach out to me. (UK7) remember this is a serious issue. T's and C's apply. @palladium_za @block88conceptstores @sixteengallery_ @Mrfonds @Palladiumboots #June16 #Sowetouprising #GBV #Palladium #South Africa #Soweto #Johannesburg #woman #children #khwezinombembe #KweziArt #societyagainstgbv #southafricancustomisers #productcustomiser #palladiumsa #kicks https://www.instagram.com/p/CBkN3cwjlkB/?igshid=14l69cnkbyzdr
