@space-pilot-3000 your comment about heather being In Cat Hell and looking for weaknesses to manipulate cats has NEVER left my brain. it just lives rent free in my head.
ok but for reverse unpopular opinion: say something nice about w🤢 wa🤮 warrior cats /j
something good about.... war ... 🤮 warrior cats??? it would be easier to survive in space 🤢
alright alright but seriously while i know this is a joke smth i both love and absolutely hate about warrior cats is the characters. they are so bland, 95% have absolutely no characterisation at all. but that also means that the fandom is given so much more of an opportunity to flesh them out and come up with their own interpretations of them
of COURSE i would prefer it if warriors was just......... well-written but i also have a lot of appreciation for how creative the community is !!!! and how we’re essentially being given these unexplored concepts to work with (almost) as much as we want
how much are you gonna be cutting vs reworking for tnp? I reread Midnight last year and it was mostly boring as fuck, so I'm curious what you wanna preserve
That’s the thing, right? There’s not a lot to preserve. TNP (and PO3 a little bit too tbh) is so fucking barren of plot and it’s such a shame because it could have been a great way to introduce the world outside of the clans. Like, it’s sad to realize that the two things that I’m cutting out about sum up everything that even happened in the first two/three books.
On that note, I’m cutting out Midnight at least insofar as her role as...what? Telling the cats they need to leave home? I think they could have figured that out on their own. So instead, the end point of the journey will be finding the new territories (I even already know the prophecy (yes I’m using an actual prophecy) that will help them find the place they settle), and then the second book might take place in the actual territories and involve [spoilers but i’ve actually talked about it on the blog before so if you know you know]
Midnight might play another role (potentially as a different animal?) if I can figure something out for her! Thinking about it now I think I might have an idea already...
And, of course, I’ll be removing the Tribe completely and replacing them with various groups of cats, each of varying formality in their structure and hostility towards outsiders, that will give the road trip crew a new perspective on the clans and ACTUALLY give them the skills they need in order to help their respective clans adapt to the new territories.
Because like. That was implied, right? That the prophecy cats were sent away not only to find Midnight but to gather the skills needed to help their clans adapt in the new territories and be leading forces in helping their clans settle but like the Erins don’t know how to write so that never really...happened? Anyways.
That said, I’m still up in the air about the events following the clans arriving in the new territories but I...still like the idea of Windclan civil war...........
do you know how rat genetics work? I know they only have 2 base colors, agouti and black, but I don't understand how you would get a white non-albino rat, or how the patterns work.
Ok I can’t do a whole explanation here so here’s the basics off the top of my head with help from my spreadsheet (If you wanna talk about it more you should join my discord! I’ll put up a fresh link soon.)
The reason you might have heard that is that rat people tend to consider chocolate another type of dilution, which I don’t, and agouti more of a color rather than a pattern, which I do, because I compare things cross-species. But we’ll go with rat people terminology for the sake of clarity.
Rats have chocolate, two types of grey/blue, and pink-eyed dilute, which can all combine to create a truly ridiculous number of self colors. A lot of the self colors can be created multiple ways as well. I have a table for this somewhere and because it’s basically four-dimensional, it gets silly really fast.
Like in cats, non-albino white rats can be created by having them entirely covered in white spotting. Because rats have a couple different white spotting genes, it’s fairly easy to just shove them all on one rat and select for the highest amounts of white. Because of the pink-eyed dilution gene, non albinistic pink-eyed whites are also possible. They can be 100% white spotted or just have enough dilution genes piled on top of each other that they look white.
ok so re: the batears mystery... there's like a talk page on the warriors wiki where they discuss nominating the character page for batear for silver grade.... but the link for the relevant page goes nowhere and there isn't a character page for any batear anymore.
he’s been erased from existence
