Hi! I love your blog! I've been really interested in witchy things for a long time but I've had a very hard time finding any resources connecting it with judaism. I was curious if I could ask about your personal views on practicing and exploring witchcraft in a Jewish way (or if you could point me in the right direction for info on that)? Thanks and have a super cool day!!
Sorry for the delay, I just saw this, oops. Anyway, I have a hard time with ‘mainstream’ witchcraft because it’s usually coded Wicca. I have nothing against Wicca, but it’s frequently framed as neutral, when it’s not. So my first point would be to stay away from things geared towards that. Witchcraft itself is generally centered on ritual, which is similar to Judaism, thus a lot of Jewish practice naturally lends itself to witchcraft, eg. don’t blow out candles, meanings assigned to numbers, evil eye folklore etc. There is also kabbalah, which I’m not super versed in but I know people do incorporate it into various forms of witchcraft. I’m sure there are folks out there who know more about this??A lot of tarot tradition uses Jewish theology and mysticism as well, in addition to Hebrew and Aramaic. People integrate Jewish practice into witchcraft in a lot of different ways and I don’t think there is one ‘correct’ way, so I would say that you should find something that you feel an affinity to and learn as much as you can about it. Integrating Jewish practice into it will come naturally with time.
