I have a confession to make… I love Converse All Stars. This isn’t a casual love affair either, I got married in a pair of extra high neon pink ones. Every anniversary my husband gets me a shiny new pair to add to my collection. My goal is to one day have one of those fancy closets full of shoes with an entire wall dedicated to my collection.

The cool thing about All Stars is that they are canvas so they are easy to embellish. I tend to hold onto my shoes for a while and I have a few pairs that need to be spruced up. Out of the ten pairs that I own not a single pair has glitter. Using tips from this tutorial by Lil Blue Boo I turned a pair of plain black and grey Converse into glitter ones.

To get started I used a pair of Converse (or any canvas shoes), mod podge, glitter, a paint brush and small container.

Then I removed the shoe laces and taped up the logo. I didn’t want the mod podge/ glitter mixture getting on to my laces because they would be stiff.

Next I balled up newspaper to stuff into my shoes. This helped keep the tongue of my shoe in place making it easier for me to paint it.

Now on to the fun part. In my small container I mixed up a solution of water with mod podge. Not a lot of water just enough to thin the mod podge. I used approximately 3 tbsp of glitter. Feel free to use more if you don’t feel that is enough (or less). The finer your glitter the easier it is to coat your shoes. Plus after multiple coats you’ll get a nice waterproof finish.

I started painting on my glitter mod podge solution. It’ll look white while it’s wet but be assured it dries clear. I was careful not to paint on to the soles of my shoes. I didn’t really worry about painting the grommets on the shoes, I figured the more glitter the merrier. I used multiple coats to get a nice glitter covered look. To speed up drying I painted one shoe and then set it in a breezy location to dry while I painted its mate. Once my shoes were dry I cleaned them up a bit using a magic eraser.

My finished product. Nice, shiny and clean!
