These fish are built for speed and are perfectly adapted for life in the open ocean with features such as a powerful crescent shaped tail, torpedo shaped streamlined bodies, and the ability to retract their dorsal and pectoral fins to reduce drag. Kawakawa are quick and difficult to photograph but I was able to get a few shots as this one came up to investigate a fallen snorkel mouthpiece that was retrieved moments later.
