Hello! Dropping by to say I love your art style so much. You do such a masterful job of giving unique facial features. I’m especially a sucker for how you draw wars and wind. Thanks for sharing your work!
Thank you so much! I selfishly admit they’re my favorite to draw 😊
I finally got caught up with CTB again. I have so much to say that I will need to leave a comment asap. But wanted you to know I def had a little cry alongside Wars this chapter. God I love CTB but it turns me into such an emotional and conflicted wreck.
To lighten the mood - ngl I was kinda with Hyrule on the plan to bail after hearing that article lol.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the chapter and also support my agenda that Hyrule puts Hyrule first
Does incredibles AU Time get breakfast in bed on Father’s Day or does he have to put out a kitchen fire?
Well... probably both XD
Wild wakes up extra-early and zips around making a very nice breakfast, waffles and all sorts of stuff he knows Time’ll like. Hyrule offers to help, so Wild puts him in charge of the orange juice because he knows he isn’t the best cook, but surely he can’t mess that up?
Somehow there are flames when Legend comes to help, and while Wild and Hyrule are busy frantically putting it out, he notices the waffle iron is warm but doesn’t have any batter in it yet. So he dumps a bunch it in and closes it up, then goes to help with the remainder of the flames, but Legend puts in WAY too much batter, and despite the fact that nothing is flaming anymore there is now waffle batter oozing all over the counter and onto the floor.
Wind runs in having just woken up to see what all the yelling is about, and slips on the batter, banging his face on the counter and making his nose bleed. He starts yelling because ow and accidentally blows the cup of orange juice they’d managed to salvage right on top of Legend’s head.
Twilight comes in to find Wind with blood on his face and Hyrule trying not to slip on the batter or spilled juice as he goes over to heal him and Legend is chasing Wild around because he laughed when the juice got spilled and Four came in at some point and is eating one of the waffles that Wild made and there’s charred oranges and batter everywhere.
Twilight is not surprised.
Time and Malon are awake by then, and Twilight quickly puts himself and Four on distraction duty while the rest of them frantically clean and try to find something edible. Somehow they manage to clean everything up before Time or Malon can get past Four or Twilight to see what’s going on, and they bring their dad his breakfast.
Time gets a single very nicely toasted waffle, and a shot glass’s worth of orange juice for Father’s Day.
Alright u gave me the go ahead so I’m going to ask: for your fic “marks on your body, marks on your soul" how do the platonic soul marks work? Ive seen many iterations of this, from soulmates feeling each others pain or other strong emotions, to scars and other injuries showing up on the skin of the other soulmates (though no pain is felt).
How soulmates work in this AU:
If you have soulmates, you’re born with marks representing them on the forearm of your dominate arm. (Not everyone has soulmates.)
You have no way of knowing what your own mark is until you see it on someone else. Because of this, the marks are pretty unambiguous. They typically represent something very important to the person.
People also get a sensation of “this is right, this is my soulmate” when they meet each other, which typically prompts them to show each other their marks and realize they’re soulmates.
Soulmarks are not a private thing in any of the heroes’ eras. They’re worn openly with pride.
You don’t feel the pain that your soulmates feel, but when they die, their soulmark goes gray and fades a little. (Yeah this has fun implications for Wild’s mark)
Soulmates can romantic or platonic, and there’s no way to differentiate between the two based on the mark, so you have to wait until you meet them.
Large soulmate groups tend to be platonic, but, again, you don’t know until you meet.
Soulmates are not the end all be all. People still get into romantic relationships even if they don’t share soulmarks. Those without soulmarks are not destined to be alone, etc. it’s just sometimes the gods think some people need a little nudge.
So far, the fic is solely from Wind’s POV, and it’ll probably stay that way. Wind was born with a really large soulmate pod. He doesn’t know if their romantic or platonic, but since he’s got the largest soulmate pod (8 soulmarks!) on Outset Island in a long time, everyone assumes they’re platonic.
The heroes’ soulmarks:
Sky: Red Loftwing
Four: Four’s soulmark is actually one mark that can separate into four. It’s four kinstones, but instead of being half a circle each, they’re each a quarter, and they lock together. When Four separates into the colors, the soulmark comes apart, becoming 4 separate marks.
Twilight: Howling wolf headshot in front of the star symbol that’s on his forehead
Wind: Telescope (?)
Legend: Pink Rabbit (?)
Hyrule: Glowing green fairy. There is a very faint yellow triforce in the middle of the glow. You can’t see this unless you are very close up.
Wild: A drawn bow and arrow with a drops of blood.
I don’t know what to do for Time and Warriors
I thought both an ocarina and the Fierce Deity marks were uninspired. (Plus Fierce Deity isn’t really a representation of Time.) And the only think I can think of for Warriors would be a shield, which, agian, seems uninspired.
I gotta know, did you ever end up reading Captive Prince series. I sooo want to know your review of it
I actually read the first book back in April. I actually did write a very long and very negative review for it, but I made the mistake of posting it to the tag. I got blasted for it, which was fair all things considered. I was really harsh, and it wasn't right of me to put something that negative into the main tag. I ended up deleting the post.
My library refuses to get the rest of the series and I refuse to spend money on this, so I think my experiment is over for now.
...I don't think this post is going to end up in the tags again, so I can quickly summarize my thoughts on the first book in case you're interested.
The things I like about the book begin and end with Laurent. He's really well written, and I enjoyed whenever the limited POV allowed us any glimpse into his machinations. The way Pacat implied his history of sexual abuse was masterfully done.
I also like Nicaise. Super complex set-up, and I was looking forward to seeing where else could take him.
Ok, time for the things I didn't like
The structure of the story is a total mess. If the politics are truly the main drive of the plot, then we needed to see Daimen in his home country, before the cold opening of being kidnapped. It would establish his POV, the worldbuilding, and one of the main antagonists far better than a few quick bathroom musings could.
Because the exposition was cut short, you get the impression that the world building and therefore the politics do not matter and are just set-dressing for the smut
The smut wasn't even sexy, even if you take into account the potential kinky fantasy of the whole thing
Generally, I think Pacat could have saved herself a lot of trouble by renaming "sex slave" to "concubine." What little we learn of how the sex slave system works sounds a lot more like concubines, and using the term "slave" invites the reader to think way too hard about the human rights aspect of this whole thing
Damian really is the weak point of the story for me. He's far too naive for someone expected to take the throne. I saw a few arguments that he's bad at politics because he's supposed to be good at warfare. Which, okay. But this was really basic court drama, and he made a lot of dumb decisions (like trying to escape when the castle would be under alert for a potential murder), and I do not think naivety was an intended character flaw by the author.
Plus, Damian does a lot of inner musings about how the sex slave system is a lot better in his kingdom. Again, because the world building was skipped over, I have no idea if this is him having a warped perspective or if this is the actual text of the book. And I really do not want to a story to tell me there is a humane way to have a slave (which would be avoided IF THEY WERE CALLED CONCUBINES)
The book really did not have a lot of plot going on, and it was mostly Damian being shoved from scene to scene. I know that fans of the series will argue that the book is not meant to be alone, but I'm sorry. I can't accept that. If you sell me a multi-volume story, there has to be something close to a satisfying narrative in each volume. I refuse the walk down the path of letting a story promise me that it'll get better Next Time.
Finally, Pacat's prose is not great. It's really obvious that she has a pedestrian narrative voice. That's fine on its own. All of her attempts to elevate her prose to sound more in-line with a high-concept fantasy led to some really awkward phrasing that was more distracting than helpful.
Honestly, I would read more of the series just to see if it improves as much as it is supposed to. But my library is oddly picky about fulfilling requests. So I guess that's where we're gonna leave it.
6. What's something you have in common with this character? + CTB Lincoln and Hyrule
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
For Hyrule, it's stubborn grudges. Once we dislike someone, it's really hard to get us to change our minds even if the reasons are silly.
I was going to say that I don't have anything in common with Lincoln, but then it hit me. He and I are really unsympathetic to people who ignore our advice. If a friend comes to me with their problems and I give them a solution, I get so annoyed when they don't listen to my advice and keep being upset. No matter what I do, I find it so hard to be sympathetic to someone if they're blatantly not going to let me help them.
