FCPX 10.1 Built For Speed (Changes)
This release brings us more controls for clip speed changes.
Custom Speed
Before we had locked percentages of speed to choose or we could click and drag the edge of the speed handle to give it the speed we want, but sometimes was hard to achieve that wanted change. Now we can just enter the percentage we want and hit return:
We have the new check box to ripple clip or not (previous default behavior). If we select it, the speed change is gonna leave a gap.
Jump Cuts
There’s the new option to make jump cuts at markers. We first create markers where we want the jump cuts to happen on the clip and then we choose how many frames FCPX has to jump:
Speed Transitions
Up until now, the speed changes on a clip wold be linear by sections, meaning that we can select a range of a clip and change the speed, but that change was abrupt from one value to another. Enter the speed transition handles:
After changing the speed of a section of a clip we have this new handles in the retime editor that change the way that change be haves making a smooth transition from one value to the next one creating a ramp effect.
