i deeply love the bridges of madison county. it's one of my favourite films. it's lush and beautiful and romantic and tragic. it's quiet and intimate and captivating. i'd almost say it's better than the notebook and titanic which are held up as the big romantic epics that everyone loves. that being said...i can't help but wonder if clint was miscast and what a spielberg directed version of the film would've looked like. idk i feel like meryl is giving her all in this film and maybe i'm not used to clint's acting style but it doesn't feel like he's as three dimensional as her. or maybe i just don't find him attractive in order to fall in love with the love story. he's raw and vulnerable and stripped back and i appreicate that but he also feels a little stiff or wooden...but maybe that's just who robert is. it leaves me muddled. it leaves me confused as to why francesca loves robert and it's a weird power dynamic between them as actors and as characters. he's only a decade older than her but his tone of voice feels a little authoritative. something feels off despite the beautiful script and directing.
For Throwback Thursday, here's an entry in my "Unnecessary Sequels" series, taking a look at the 80s masterpiece Poltergeist, and its increasingly unnecessary sequels. The second one isn't BAD, just highly unnecessary. And the third one? It's just bad... https://retrorevelations.blogspot.com/2016/10/unnecessary-sequels-poltergeist.html
FRIDAY REFLECTION: THE AUSTRIAN GP SO FAR
F1′s longest ‘off season’ for 55 years has finally come to an end with the beginning of the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, and Mercedes have continued from where they left off in 2019.
Six-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton has topped both Friday Practice sessions in his new beautiful black Mercedes W11.
A damp start saw moments of understeer and low tyre temperatures to challenge the drivers, who are taking their first competitive laps on track since testing back at Barcelona before the coronavirus outbreak.
There was also drama for George Russell and he nearly hit a spinning Pierre Gasly at the final corner.
FP2 saw Hamilton top the time sheets again, two tenths of a second ahead of team mate Valtteri Bottas.
There were spins for Daniil Kvyat and the only rookie in the field, Nicholas Latifi, as he found the limits of his new car, whilst Kimi Raikkonen ran through the gravel at turn six.
Sergio Perez ended the session in third, but his Racing Point was almost a smoked salmon, with smoke coming out of the rear of his car when he wasn’t on the throttle through turn four.
Red Bull had a disappointing day dropping from 3rd and 7th in the morning to 8th and 13th in the afternoon in a session full of spins, whilst Ferrari improved from 10th and 12th to 4th and 9th.

The third and final painting made in collaboration with @amblinroad celebrating the seminal Steven Spielberg film E.T. The Extraterrestrial can be won by visiting the @amblinroad facebook page. Here are my thoughts on this final piece. Last Contact The final ending where the bikes fly a second time with ET’s renewed strength was such an inspiration to me as child. I remember yelling to my best friend at the theater “this is the greatest movie ever!” There are major visual symbols that I deciphered as an adult but I didn’t’ comprehend as an early teen. How the glowing energy of the sun reflects the brightness of ET’s healing finger. Elliott’s red hoodie mirrors ET’s glowing red heart. Elliot’s growth and independence portrayed in the final image of a young boy by himself facing the vastness of the universe that ET belongs to. #retoyman #et #ettheextraterrestrial #speilberg #stevenspeilberg #flyingbikes #cinema #sun #aliens #1982 #painting #acryliconpaper #acrylicpainting #minimalpalette #realism #artrealism https://www.instagram.com/p/B2RaDLEgY-F/?igshid=1qwx6sdhj2tm2
