Substitution AU

Throughout the series there’s been a few times where a character falls into a vat of mutagen. There’s four times: Spider Bytez’s mutation, Bradford’s double mutation, April’s attempted mutation, and Karai’s mutation. These four characters also happen to have on turtle they’re linked to. Spider Bytez and Raph, Bradford and Mikey, April and Donnie, Karai and Leo.

So for this AU, the turtles replace each of these characters when they fall.

Raph: I’m moving Spider Bytez’s mutation episode to season 2 for this since every other substitution happens in season 2 as well. Raph taking Vic’s place means he gets mutated instead, ending up as a turtle-spider hybrid. Spider Bytez also never exists, but he only appears in 2 episodes anyways so it doesn’t matter.

Mikey: Mikey gets to take Bradford’s place in the Shellacne ep, meaning he’ll never be Rahzar. But Mikey gets to be double mutated into a turtle-canine hybrid. In the episode Bradford hangs onto Mikey and gets kicked off into the mutagen but it would be reversed here.

Donnie: When April falls into the mutagen in Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman, she gets saved but Donnie falls in instead. Unlike the other times April doesn’t get mutated, so there’s nothing set for Donnie to turn into. He can be a bird hybrid now.

Leo: Karai gets saved in Vengeance is Mine, causing Leo to mutate into a snake hybrid. Of course Karai won’t be mutated now, so she gets to live with the turtles permanently. Leo goes mindless for a little bit but his connection to his friends and family makes it easier for him to gain control of himself again, so he’s back with them by the end of the episode.
