As soon as I read the quote on that meme, I resonated with it and immediately began to think of the character Ursula Ditkovich in the 2004 and 2007 Spider-Man movies.

I cannot even begin to say how many times I've had to explain her character to friends and exes over time.

The massive amount of confusion was around her joy for Peter Parker every time Mary Jane was coming around. It's no secret Ursula loved Peter, so why was she so happy in Mary's presence? Wasn't Mary "competition" for Ursula if they both had feelings for Peter? Not in Ursula's eyes, and I'll tell you the reason why.

Because that is real love.

Ursula loved Peter but she was aware that Peter loved Mary. So, when Mary came around, Ursula would get excited for him because she knew Mary made him happy. And when you truly love someone, you want them to be happy, even if that happiness has nothing to do with you. So simple, and yet so profound.

Such a great character because she's so selfless. Ursula never tries to get in the way or to sabotage Mary and Peter's attempts to see one another. Though her heart may yearn and ache for him, you never see jealousy or envy get the best of her. Simply incredible and a great example for all of us to follow when we love someone we can never have or hold.

It isn't easy. You know in your heart that you cherish this person, you treasure them, you would never do anything to hurt them, and would rise to the occasion if ever given the chance that you wish for every day and every night. But that chance never comes no matter how patient and kind you may be in your wait.

And in those moments, we have to be strong and see past our pain and desire and not allow the unrequited love to make us bitter.

We have to remember that sometimes, love means letting go so that person can be happy, just as we wanted them to be in the first place. Even though it's not your words or your hands that brings them that happiness, we have to trust the Universe will send us our person when the time is right. Always trust in divine timing, even if your heart is left in longing. More thoughts later.
