I envisioned him as pale watercolor but he was, in reality, chromatic--so much color that it wasn’t beautiful anymore, just painful to look at. Loved him anyway.

Moon eyes. Never said it aloud; powder-gray and blue halos, perfectly round, Heavenly Spherical Bodies. He looked at me and I disappeared. All these years later, if I think of them for too long, I'm gone again-- --It’s the hands I miss the most, maybe. They were only slightly larger than mine. So delicate, I’d have wrapped him up in everything soft and safe and Holy if I could have. I never found anything so precious. I don’t even know what a love like that is. It surpasses romantic. It’s the kind you can do nothing with but set down softly, walk away.

Pistil pistol.

I am not a delicate flower. Not a rose in sight, long stems with rotten centers where the pistils grew. I am prickly, my skin rough, like a cactus, with thin skin and thick layers of truth behind it, reaching. I am not a delicate flower, more like a tree stump, sturdy and stable, able to withstand a hurricane and comfortable to rest beside on sunny days. I am not a delicate flower. My beauty doesn’t fade, wilt or blow away. It’s within, it’s strong and it’s forever.
