Between Spencer’s run and Renew Your Vows Marvel is running out of excuses for having done and continuing to maintain OMD.
Like I don’t see any of these alleged legion of fans who jumped on board after OMD complaining about Peter and MJ being back together or anything in any volume of RYV.
Didn’t Slott talk about how all the (alleged) legions of new fans who are growing up on post-OMD Spider-Man will inevitably not restore the marriage when they roll into power because post-OMD Spider-Man for them IS Spider-Man?
Well...they seem to have liked married Spider-Man/Spider-Man in a serious relationship with Mary Jane at least as much as they liked anything else.
Where are all those die hard Spider-Man/Mockingbird/Silk/Anna Maria Marconi/Carlie Cooper shippers at?
Why aren’t IGN or CBR doing articles about how Spencer and RYV are/were fucking up royally by shipping Peter and MJ or depicting them as married given that MockingSpider was just so compelling and interesting and the ‘spark had just gone’ from Peter and MJ’s relationship?
I mean fuck the den of ignorance that is the Comics Cube (that site that claimed Michelle Gonzalez was awesome as opposed to you know a horribly racist and sexist stereotype who abused Peter) never even WROTE anything about either story.
Where are all these outraged post-OMD/anti-marriage people?
Because all I’m seeing is praise from the people who were already praising Slott’s garbage (whether it’s from sites with vested interests like CBR or individual fans), praise from people who were mixed on Slott and BND (like Professor Thorgi off Youtube) and A LOT of praise from the crushing majority of people like me who viscerally hated post-OMD Spider-Man and Slott’s run specifically. So far I’ve even seen one or two people talk about how they are picking the book up again, or at least are now following it again.
Similarly the only primarily negative assessments of Renew Your Vows volume 2 I’ve encountered were from exactly one CBR moron who had an achingly cynical interpretation of Spider-Man that the Ditko run outright contradicted, a somewhat negative assessment from one blog I regard as alt-right and then I’ve heard repeatedly complaints about the time skip, which isn’t a criticism of the concept of the series or the presence of the marriage/family dynamic within it, and obviously doesn’t apply to pre-time skip RYV.
What gives Marvel?
I thought the marriage was aweful and reductive to stories and would kill off the fanbase?
