Sabrina the Teenage Witch, 1999
“He still amazes me at times. His last concert in Italy, he did a whole speech in Italian and I was just sort of stood there with my mouth open really. And then I also find that I spend a lot of time looking at the crowd and looking at people’s reactions. It’s just lovely to see.”

Nemahsis - Spinning Plates
This week on Spinning Plates I talk to Myleene Klass and find out how dating as a mum is terrifying, why learning to mend a tap is so important, and how 20 pasta shapes can save the world.

Angry at myself
You know how sometimes life goes to shit? I call it spinning plates. I am the person trying to keep all the plates spinning and sometimes I drop one. Others call it "dropping the ball" but to me that implies that when the ball is in the air you are doing nothing. Spinning plates means you are the one constantly working to keep your shit together. And when you fail. When you fail, boy does it hurt.
Some plates aren't as important. They are the little plates that you can always pick back up. Other plates are important, so important that missing a step and making that plate wobble is something you can't forget for quite some time.
I wobbled this week. Too many plates and I missed a step. And the plate is one of my most important ones. And I'm angry at myself. I'm angry that I missed something as simple as a message. I'm angry that "always be there for you" may have been put into doubt.
I'd take a bullet for this plate. I would get a taxi in the middle of the night if she needs a hug. I would literally do anything for this plate and I let them down. I can't undo forgetting to send a message. She may even forgive me. But I am meant to be the friend who doesn't let you down and I feel flawed and angry at myself.
What do you do when you let your person down. When you wobble the plate? When you have too much time to think about all the other ways you have wobbled plates and just don't know how to stop the spiral of thoughts becoming a plate themselves?
I sadly don't have an answer. I'm angry at myself. Life isn't a TV show where dancing it out is an option. Or sitting in an empty bathtub with wine. I wish it was. Since it isn't I guess I'll just have to accept that I fucked up and do better. Be better.
To my plate. I am truly sorry. I did not forget because you're importance has diminished. You are now and always will be a plate I'll never drop and love to the moon and back. Life became too much. The little plates got in the way of my brain. Next time I'll smash them before I wobble. Next time I'll be better.
I’d never met Jacqueline before but I approached her for Spinning Plates (listen: https://smarturl.it/spinningplates) as I think she’s awesome. She is CEO of Ann Summers and through her role in the company has fundamentally shifted the emphasis of the uk sex shop from being the solely the ‘men in raincoats’ brigade to being a place on the high street where women can buy themselves sexy stuff without shame.
She is passionate about women being their full 360 degree sexual selves and her gentle voice doesn’t always illuminate quite how radical she is. I loved talking to her and hearing her speak about being a mother to Scarlett who is now 10 and Scarlett’s twin Alfie who sadly died at only a few months old. I’m so lucky I get to spend time with amazing women like her for the podcast. It’s a privilege and a treat. Hope you enjoy our chat. X
