The next morning you woke alone in your bed, unsure whether or not Klaus ever came in. Stretching as you stared out the window you tried not to think of what happened the previous night.
When you finally got out of bed and got dressed you snuck downstairs, hearing three voices coming from the kitchen, Klaus, Elijah and Kol. Kol and Rebekah must have made it back last night. Trying to decide if you would enter the kitchen or leave the house you jumped at the sudden presence behind you.
“Morning” Rebekah said from behind you, laughing when you jumped
Turning you sighed in relief “Rebekah. When did you get back?”
“Last night, around midnight” she said as he linked her arms in yours and dragged you into the kitchen with the others.
When you entered the kitchen you felt all eyes on you, immediately making you uncomfortable, for multiple reasons. Kol smirked when he saw you.
“Ah there she is, Queen of the castle” he said sarcastically, causing both Klaus and Elijah to smile fondly at you.
Rolling your eyes at him you went to pour yourself some coffee, your eyes briefly meeting Elijahs “Hello Kol”
Rebekah noticed the way Klaus and Elijah were both staring at you, but decided against bringing it up. Instead she spoke to you “I want to go shopping, y/n, come with me?” she asked hopefully.
Usually you didn’t like going shopping with Rebekah, granted you liked to shop, but it meant spending all day down town. But in this moment, that is exact what you wanted to do.
“Sure” you said simply
She smiled at you “Good, be ready in thirty” she said before leaving.
Deciding you didn’t want to talk to anyone you quickly left the kitchen without looking at any of the boys.
Kol squinted as you left, turning to Klaus he smirked “Have a fight did you? She seemed pretty keen to get away from you”
Klaus glared at Kol as he left the kitchen, following you up the stairs. Elijah following him with his eyes.
As you entered your room you were fully aware of who was following you “Love, are you seriously going to avoid me all morning?”
“Not avoiding, I just didn’t feel like arguing in front of them” you said as you walked into your closet
“Who said we were going to argue?” he asked, sitting on the bed
“We always argue Klaus” you said, your voice sad.
Klaus noticed the sadness in your voice. He had noticed you two had been fighting more recently. He noticed you pulling away from him, and heading straight to his brother. He could let you go if he needed, but he couldn’t give you to him. Not Elijah.
“We do don’t we?” we asked standing.
Walking out of the closet, now with a different shirt you stared at him “Do you still love me Klaus?” you asked suddenly, even surprising yourself.
Klaus stared at you wide-eyed “Of course I do” he said quickly, taking a step towards you. Taking your face in his hands he placed a gentle kiss on your forehead. Smiling lightly he looked down at you “Now, are you still going to go with Rebekah?”
“Well I can’t back out now, can I?” you said smiling, causing him to chuckle.
“No, Rebekah wouldn’t allow that. Alright, go then. I will see you later” he said leaving the room.
Your smile quickly fell. You wanted to believe that he still loved you. But his voice wasn’t quite sincere. But then again, him not loving you anymore would make it easier for you. Falling out of love was hard when it was only one person doing it.
After getting ready and meeting Rebekah downstairs she quickly drove you down to the shops. You noticed she kept glancing over at you every minute or so, growing tired of it you finally spoke up.
“Why do you keep looking at me like that?” you asked when she did it again
“What happened between you and Klaus?” she asked curiously
“We fought at dinner last night” you said staring out the window
“And what happened between you and Elijah?”
Glancing at her quickly before shuffling uncomfortably she smirked at you “Nothing happened”
“I don’t believe you” she said while she pulled into a parking spot. Quickly getting out to avoid answering the question, Rebekah only grew more curious.
After you had a changing room to yourself she decided to start digging “Please tell me y/n, I noticed how Elijah was staring at you this morning. What happened between you two?”
Sighing you looked up at her as she admired herself in the mirror, trying to decide on a dress “I don’t know what’s happening Bekah”
She turned to look at you, noticing the obvious fear and sadness in your voice “What do you mean?”
Staring at her for a moment you took a deep breath “I..Me and Klaus- We aren’t doing very well. All we do is fight, and I feel myself...falling out of love with him” at this Rebekah took a step towards you, listening intently “And when Elijah showed up yesterday, he actually seemed interested in me, Klaus hasn’t done that in a while. And we just...clicked. And then at dinner, me and Klaus fought, and instead of him chasing after me, Elijah did” this caused Rebekah to sit down next to you.
“What did Elijah do?” she asked
“He asked if I was alright, and then..he almost kissed me. But I pulled away” you said truthfully, finally looking up at Rebekah, whose gaze you had been avoiding, instead of finding judgement you found a small smile “What?”
“Don’t take this the wrong way y/n, but I knew you and Klaus wouldn’t last. But you and Elijah? You two could last forever” she said genuinely
“How can you tell that? You’ve never seen us together. Besides, if that did happen, Klaus wouldn’t let it” you knew that.
So did Rebekah. She sighed as she leaned back “I don’t have to see it y/n, I knew you two were similar when I met you, I’ve been waiting for the day you two would meet. And if Klaus does truly love you, even a little, he would want you to be happy, even if it meant you being with Elijah”
After sitting in silence for a moment she stood again going to take off her dress. After buying the clothes you liked you went from shop to shop, buying clothes you really didn’t need.
By the time you were done, it was already evening. Sighing as you sat down in the car you looked over at Rebekah “No more shopping for at least a month” she laughed as she turned the car on.
After finally lugging everything up stairs you grew curious as to where everyone was. Klaus, Elijah and Kol all seemed to be gone. Your curiosity soon turned to fear when you heard a large crash downstairs. Using your vampire speed you went as quickly as you could, meeting Rebekah downstairs at the same time you two were suddenly thrown across the room.
After you landed hard on the ground you looked up to see a witch. The witch that had been trying causing trouble around town.
“Where is Niklaus Mikaelson?!” she yelled at the two of you.
Rebekah growing angry used her speed to try and get to the witch, but she quickly used her magic to bring her down. As Rebekah was flung into the other room, you took the opportunity to attack. Quickly lunging at her you managed to knock her back, but only slightly before she used her magic on you. You hissed in pain as you felt your head pounding, as if it was about to explode.
Suddenly the witch was thrown across the room, looking up you see Elijah. Before he could make it to you the windows all broke in an explosion, sending glass everywhere. You threw yourself to the ground, looking up you see three more witches enter. The witch must have managed to get some followers.
Seeing they were focusing their power on Elijah you ran towards them, tackling one of them to the ground you snapped his neck. Feeling guilty for a moment before one of the others threw you through a window.
Landing roughly on the ground outside you grunted in pain, hearing your name being called you look behind you, seeing Kol approaching you quickly. Kneeling down next to you he helped you up. You two quickly entering the house again.
When you ran in you saw both Rebekah and Elijah on the ground, gripping their heads. You and Kol teamed up on the two witches standing in front of them. As Kol managed to kill one you attacked the other. Knocking them to the ground you snapped his neck but froze when you felt a sharp pain in your back.
It was as if it was in slow motion. The others never saw her, the witch that started this, she quickly came up behind you, pulling out a stake and stabbing it through your back. Kol turned quickly to attack her but she easily threw him. Elijah and Rebekah stared in fear, Rebekah calling your name as you started to fall backwards towards the floor. The both of them quickly approaching.
Hearing Rebekah shout your name you started falling backwards as your whole body began to ache. Vein spreading across your face. Looking up you see the woman start to walk towards Rebekah, but Elijah appeared behind her, snapping her neck. As you saw her fall to the ground your vision started to blur.
You noticed everyone surrounding you, Elijah holding your head in his hands, Rebekah gripping your hand as Kol stared down at you. Rebekah started inspecting you, lifting your back off the ground, Elijah pulled you into his chest. Feeling pressure on your back Rebekah sighed in relief.
“It didn’t pierce her heart enough to kill her” she said, her eyes full of tears.
You could feel your body trying to heal, but it would take a while, especially since you had already lost a lot of blood. Feeling Elijah pick you up, you were quickly set on a bed. You looked up at his worry ridden face as he stroked your cheek gently. Your eyes closed as darkness took you.
Elijah stared down at you, his heart still pounding. The darkened veins started to retreat from your face as you slowly healed. This gave him some relief. He stroked your face as he watched you fall unconscious. Hearing shouting downstairs he recognized the sound of Klaus’s voice.
He didn’t remove his hands from your face as Klaus entered the room. Seeing you on the blood covered bed. Approaching, guilt took over.
“This is your fault” Elijah said, his voice low and threatening.
Klaus and Elijah had just been with the witch, she threatened to destroy their home, to kill you, but Klaus only egged her on. Daring her to do it, without realizing she actually would. And she did. And you almost died because of it, because of Klaus’s arrogance.
Klaus’s guilt and anger rose. He should have been here to save you. But Elijah was, he saved you. That was suppose to be his job, but he wasn’t even here. He was angry, at himself, at Elijah. Looking at Elijah, staring down at you, his hands on your face as if lulling you to sleep.
A new kind of anger took over him, Klaus could see Elijah’s feelings for you. Klaus quickly left the room before he exploded. Elijah watched as he left, un-bothered. Looking back down at you he pulled a blanket over you, watching over you as you slept.
He swore to himself he wouldn’t let Klaus get you killed, but he was too slow, and it almost happened. Now he swore to himself that he would be there when you woke up, and he would take care of you.
