2x02 Everybody Loves A Clown, Dean and Ash pt1
DEAN Hey, man? ASH Yeah. DEAN I, uh, I dig the haircut. ASH All business up front, party in the back.
‘We don’t want regular. We want this’.
Reason three hundred thousand why the ending of this show was an absolute travesty for Sam as well as Dean. He never wanted regular!!! HE WANTED TO BE A FREAK.
WATCHING SUPERNATURAL FOR THE FIRST TIME
2x02 EVERYBODY LOVES A CLOWN
3/17/26: We are back to the “family business” of recaps.
I just realized: how dare John tell Sam that if Sam had shot John that nothing would have happened to Dean. That’s terrible.
A carnival. Lovely. I don’t dislike clowns, but I don’t love them either.
That one off to the side is *definitely* the killer. I’m getting war flashbacks to October 2016. My town actually had one so that was fun.
This damn child. I could wake up, see the laundry in my chair and think that it was a person and immediately freeze for self preservation. No, this child literally welcomes the clown in with open arms.
John is getting his Viking funeral, and the boys look gorgeous while mourning. Dean lies to Sam about John’s last words. Hey, everyone handles grief differently.
The camera pans to Dean all sweaty under Baby as he fixes her and I suddenly can’t remember what the problems within the plot are.
Sam is trying to be sweet in the midst of loss, and Dean is rejecting loss with cynicism.
John has a message from a lady friend from 4 months ago… I wonder.
Sam and Dean drive in the Mystery Machine’s mother to a place called Roadhouse. It’s a dead end bar in rough shape with a dude asleep on a pool table. Niiiicceeeee.
Dean is kind enough to explain to the girl how her self defense method is flawed, and as he’s doing it, the girl straight punches him in the face 😂 and he immediately panics and calls for Sam.
Oh so these lovely folks holding us at gunpoint are Ellen and Jo. We sure have a way of welcoming friends.
John used to frequent the Roadhouse and Ellen and him were friends.
Ellen puts the children’s level puzzle together to determine that John is 6ft under.
Dean really isn’t handling this well at all.
Ash—pool table man—mullet to end all mullets—is important somehow. He thinks he can track the electrical storms and whatnot in about 51 hours. That’s oddly specific.
Dean takes note of Jo, while Sam asks about the folder with MURDER written in the front in red.
I don’t know how I feel about Jo x Dean. I think it would be cute if she was a bit older, but she can’t be any older than 20 and Dean is 27. She just looks like a baby to me.
It looks like Dean’s grief has caught up with him because he decides not to pursue it, especially after that Zeppelin comment.
Sam Winchester is scared of clowns 📌
“Planes crash!” “And apparently clowns kill!” Sam would have been traumatized during the creepy clown era.
Little kid playing his DSI in the funhouse as the clown is imitating Pennywise behind the glass.
Oh my god these fucking kids. I had SOOO much more of a survival instinct.
Sam stares at the short person with his “oh you work here,” face at the same time as they stare at him with their “damn that thing’s tall” face.
Costume time!
Poor Dean and his big mouth.
Dean specifically taking the non clown chair so Sam has to 😂
It’s actually terrible how freakshows were outlawed, therefore eliminating the only autonomous way deformed folks could make money on their own terms (if I’m wrong, I’m sorry, I am not educated in this, this is just the impression the show is giving me).
Dean is worried that Sam isn’t going to go back to school. I think as much as Dean didn’t want Sam to leave him, he didn’t want Sam to abandon his dreams and leave behind what made Sam ‘Sam’. He needs Sam to be his sweet little brother to his edgy self.
Sam is on funhouse duty while Dean is dumpster diving. They think Skelly in the funhouse may help them.
Old man overhears Dean and uncomfortably grabs him, demanding answers about the skeletons in his own funhouse.
Sam and Dean know which kids family is next! Wonder when this kid is gonna lay out the welcome mat for the invisible homicidal clown.
I also want to throw in the fact that right now, in both the show and real life, are exactly ten years off from the saga of The Killer Clowns of 2016, so we are just as complacent as the families getting axed on TV.
Why do ALL of these kids not freak out in the slightest when the clown shows up at their house?
Now Sam and Dean have ambushed the clown. Now Dean shot the clown. Now the child is screaming bloody murder. Now Sam is holding the child screaming bloody murder. Now the clown is getting up??? Now the clown is invisible?!!?? Now they have gotten caught 🤦🏼♀️
Sam wonders if Ellen and John were ever a thing. Dean says he thinks that maybe they just had a falling out.
REVERSE SIN: “You ever notice Dad had a falling out with just about everybody?” YES SAM, I HAVE.
The boys are having a closed off heart to broken heart, and it is rocky. I can see the regret in Deans face approximately 2 seconds after he finishes his dramatic in the rain style speech.
Ellen thinks the thing they’re hunting is a creature that can be invisible but must be invited in, hence the clown getup. And they think it’s Cooper, as he worked both carnival rings where the murders happened.
OFFICIAL SIN: Sam and Dean split up knowing that this creature can be invisible.
It’s the creepy blind guy, and Dean didn’t see it coming.
‘Sam and Dean on opposite sides of a door’ trope.
Sammy found his brass blade. Dean is pinned to the wall 👀 and things are getting steamy. No, actually steamy; they are using the steam to see Blind Guys outline.
Sam stabs him with the brass, he begins making velociraptor calls and then turns into mist like Mother Gothel.
Jo is hitting on Dean and Dean… Dean is depressed.
That’s right! It’s been exactly 51 hours! And Ash is also a fellow college boy! And we now have a pulse on where the demon might spring up.
I love Sam. I love how Sam faces his hurt and actively chooses to both acknowledge it and push through it.
DEAN PUT DOWN THE CROWBAR. BABY NO
Sam talks things out. Dean smashes them. 📌
Favorite moment:
Honestly, smashing the trunk. I asked for Dean to snap like a rubber band and season 2 is delivering!
