Here, I Fixed It
Dean mashed the power button and threw the remote at the TV—well, a little to the left of the TV, where it hit the wall. The battery cover sprang off and skittered in one direction across the floor, the body of the remote clattered to the ground, and the batteries went rolling.
“What,” Sam said flatly, “the fuck was that?”
“I believe we would call that bullshit,” Cas intoned from the other end of the couch, blue eyes still pinned on the blank black screen.
“That is the most bullshit,” Dean said, standing from between them, “this meta bullshit has ever been.”
“That's sayin' somethin',” Sam muttered.
“For the record,” Dean continued, turning to face them, “if I ever die like that” he jabbed a finger at the TV, “or even halfway like that, you are required to bring me back. I refeuse to go out like that. And if you don't resurect me, I will find a way to come back and haunt your asses.”
“Of course we would bring you back,” Cas said solomnly.
“Would we even have to, though?” Sam asked. “I know we've seen people come back from worse on Untold Stories of the E.R. no magical or devine intervention required.” He ran a hand over his face. “Also, who did I marry?”
“No idea,” the other two said as one.
For a moment they were quiet, all looking at TV as if it might answer for the utter nonsense they had just seen.
“At least,” Cas began, a smile tugging at his lips, “the Impala went to Heaven.”
“Of course Baby goes to Heaven!” Dean sounded downright affronted. “She's a good car, Cas.”
One of Cas's eyebrows ticked up. “She still has to pass emissions, Dean.”
Dean huffed and pursed his lips. “You know what, I'm gonna go work on her right now.”
He turned to stride out of the room while Sam disolved into laughter behind a cushion.
“Hey,” Cas called, prompting Dean to pause and turn back. “I love you.”
Dean rolled his eyes. “Love you too, assbutt.”
if I post a fic link w/o doin the fancy summary and word count shit, will y’all just take my word and read it
@elizabethrobertajones mentioned you in a post
Mittens and I have been poking at 12x13 @thayerkerbasy :D Priority no.1 is to fix the timeline issues and make it a worthy wrap up to the MacLeod family drama, if that is to be where it ends. Kinda need a Robbie level tying together of 6x04 and 9x21 into a coherent story but give us a lil while to try anyway ;)
If you ever figure it out, I am 100% here for that, because that episode was a travesty. I thank you for your service and applaud your efforts, and if your 12x08 fix is any indication, I have faith the answer will present itself. In the meantime, I refuse to engage with that episode.
How cool would it've been if in the last episode, they'd saved Cas from the empty, destroying it in the process and causing it to spit back out everyone they'd sent there over the years.
You’ve got your welcome familiar faces like Gabriel, Hannah, Balthazar, Crowley and Meg. But you’ve also got it spitting out the likes of Lucifer, Alistair, Azazel and literally every demon they’ve ever killed with that knife.
Get rid of purgatory two while your at it. If they wanted to reset the characters to square one that is how to do it. Let them face the same problems having grown as people and with a lot more allies and a place to call home instead of a pair of brothers living out of their car.
That’s how I would have ended Supernatural. Back to square one. Go. Standing back to back in a field and so ready for whatever gets thrown at them. (And just begging for a movie spinoff/follow up.)
I really thought that was what they were doing at the beginning of Season 15 - That we would have a final season full of nostalgia overlaying the plot because Chuck had opened the gates of hell. that worried me but there was a way to do it well, facing old nightmares and realizing how much they’ve grown.
A restoration of the angels could be a huge penance for Castiel who has immense guilt having had such a hand in their all but annihilation, but I don’t want tfw at square one at the finale, I don’t want their 15 years of suffering to have been futile. Though tbh that’s the problem with the finale we got. The brothers really do end at square one, alone, with no direction. Doomed to aimlessly crisscross the country playing monster whack-a-mole. They have grown, they have people, they have a found family, and ... where are they?
Upsetting everything they had ever done to get a loved one back is a classic vintage Winchester move. On the one hand like - in character and YES Dean doing it for someone he romantically loves instead of his brother - on the other have they not grown? Or maybe it happens but everyone’s evaluation of who is good and who is evil needs to be recalibrated in terms of Chuck and the meta narrative. If they were going to go where they did, instead of Lucifer being an evil shit, he could have been cleared of the mark’s effects and shitty but vindicated in his assessment of Chuck like - he was right and the show and the brothers never acknowledge it.
There was too big a set up with no pay off, and I don’t think I can accept any season 15, any finale, that does not get epic. Where is my interdimensional showdown?? (even if it would feel VERY C*w right now bc of the arrowverse) - Where is my coalition of Sams & Deans? Where are the earth prime Winchesters fighting separately and leading different fronts: Sam leading the coordinated interdimensional spell work against Chuck while Dean leads a more physical assault against Chuck’s forces or the Empty to save Cas and Jack.
It would be a way to bring back any characters they chose through the power of the multiverse.
I forget whose post it was that pointed it out, but Dean leading an assault on the empty to save Castiel would bring the narrative through its full circle from Castiel leading the assault on hell to save Dean. The narrative symmetry was set up so perfectly, and covid or no covid, it looks like they never recognized it.
My idea of an ideal reboot would completely erase episodes 19&20 and be a 6 episode fix it. At this point the first failure raised the bar for what I would and would not be willing to accept. If they are not going to show an explicitly reciprocal Dean I don’t want one.
All they had to do was have the hug on the bridge be Misha
CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THAT HUG ON THE BRIDGE WAS MISHA?!
Just show Sam beginning a new life with a new family.
#The fan video where Cas says "Hello Dean" off screen #and then Dean smiles knowingly and is about to turn and it #fades to black #will forever love in my head #forever #rent free
Thinking about Dream a Little Dream Everyone focuses on Dean talking about John and becoming a demon, but it's what comes before that that really makes this episode a window into the character that the general audience seems to ignore when they claim that the dean meta-analysis is not based on the text. It's like the people who wrote the finale of the show did not watch even this episode all the way back in season 3. You don't need to write a Dean meta because this episode is it and in a 3-minute clip we get more on Dean then we will in the entire series. If you watched just this clip and the confession in 15x18 you would know what the arc for this character was for all of the years in between, including be Suicidal Tendencies of Dean. How do we have this scene in season 3 yet that ending in season 15
Okay but
All the people thanos snapped away by Chuck ahead of time - they could be in heaven/hell or they could just be completely gone. We don’t truly know whether Eileen, whether Charlie, are completely gone.
....
But Cas was canonically dragged to the empty by the empty.
He still exists. In the show itself.
Which yes you knew because Bobby says he’s in heaven
but even if there were to be a mini revival veronica mars style, and you erased 15x20 Roseanne style, Cas would be in the empty.
In 15x19 Lucifer says that Chuck brought him back from the Empty, so we know that, in a retcon, Chuck now has that power, and therefore so does Jack. No large assault on the empty even necessary unless you replace 15x19 too.
