TFW you remember how much more work mixtapes were than playlists or CDs. For a playlist you have to curate the music. For a CD you also have to wait for it to burn and finalize. For a mix tape, if you want to do it right, you had to sit with it, carefully listening to and timing the transitions between songs for the entire tape. You had to be ready to change the songs at that exact moment so it will be polished or it would be a gappy mess. It's possible that Dean copied a tape he had already made for himself, but that’s no fun, it was written in, I’d rather think that a lot of time and care went into that tape and Dean listened to it in its entirety during its creation before giving it to Castiel.
Bonus: People used to record little messages to the recipient between songs. Have fun with that.

Who has the mixtape?
I must know. Did Dean take it out of Cas’ coat before burning his body? Did it magically appear in Cas’ new coat?
Who has the mixtape? This mystery needs solving and I for one won’t rest until it is addressed in canon.
