Every time I approach the thought of continuing my writing or starting something new, my brain goes "NO" and idk what to do ;_;
I’m not gonna, lie, neither do I. ;_; It’s why I have so many snippets!
For continuing, if you really need to just get to the next part, then I recommend sending the character to rest.
It doesn’t have to be sleep. it could be a movie or looking at the stars or visiting with someone! Have them go do something you don’t have to flesh out so that you can skip ahead and write “...feeling much better, they were ready to investigate...” or something similar!
For something new, I’d recommend prompt fills! You don’t have to complete them, but just starting how to make something possible can unblock you!
Here’s one example from me:
Prompt: The witch’s home smells like Dragon Blood.
The interesting thing about Dragon’s Blood is that it’s actually plant resin. A tree if Carma remembers correctly. She burns the incense nearly constantly, letting the smell of something earthy and spicy fill her home. When she has guests, she tells them it’s cedarwood, that’s all, because no one wants to be told that the witch’s home they’ve walked into smells of Dragon’s Blood.
There’s a lot about her craft that is misunderstood.
She is not a full moon witch. Water left out under the moon’s bare face doesn’t cleanse Carma’s tools as well as water left out under a dark sky. It doesn’t mean that she’s unchanging, that she’s not filled with life, that she’s not growing. It means that she is under the soil, in the dark spaces, and her growth is marked by the potential and not the product.
And though she’s a diviner, she doesn’t read the future.
Instead, she reads the past.
