Do you think that when Vulcans say their names are unpronounceable by humans, it’s because you need Vulcan physiology to be able to form the right sounds? Do you think that Spock, being half human, lacked some of these aspects? Do you think this increased his alienation, because he couldn’t pronounce his own name without being reminded that he needed to be fully Vulcan to do it? Do you think
Just been noodlin on this headcanon that adult Vulcans do not experience nightmares.
Like, because of their methods of emotional control and meditation [and because I headcanon that the Vulcan brain has evolved to actually change the mental pathways around how emotion is handled to make that control more mentally stable, mostly based on the reversion that happens to Spock in “all our yesterdays] their brains don’t need to sort through information in dreams the same way the human brain does. So essentially Vulcans tend to dream less overall, or on the rare occasion only dream as like memories of what they do often.
Basically I’m considering nightmares after the age of like 5 are so uncommon on Vulcan that it’s considered signs of actual mental disorder or disease.
Now because of his hybrid human brain I’m thinking Spock gets nightmares. His brain pathways are likely entirely unique from both human and Vulcan systems, and he experiences a lot of emotion and trauma very often. So, although we know Spock to be as disciplined as any Vulcan, I think his brain is working against his full separation because it still processes in some ways like a human brain. And he has many experiences to process.
I think as a child Sarek was probably worried considering that something was wrong when Spock was like a tween and still getting nightmares, but Amanda kept talking him down from wanting to get it professionally looked at because Spock is also part human. But seeing how his father behaved about it Spock started hiding his nightmares, even in logical description, because if his mother was right there was no logical reason to continue to bother Sarek.
All this to say I think Spock gets chronic nightmares and hasn’t had anyone to talk to about them for like 20 years. That is, of course until the Enterprise.
It starts with away missions. Small sleeping quarters, high stress, just Jim and Bones noticing that maybe Spock is a bit restless, and avoiding sleeping around them. Or he’s shifting in his sleep oddly, if he does sleep at all. I think Jim is probably first to think it might be nightmares, but they both consider it. They wouldn’t bring it up though. Not even McCoy, because as soon as it’s big enough to bring up he’d have concern that with Spock avoiding sleeping around them it may actually exacerbate a medical insomnia problem to make him aware of their observation.
There’s two ways it goes from here and this is where I’m going to get Shippy so everyone put on your goggles.
The fluffy way is that Spock starts dating Leonard and Jim (McSpirk for the WIN) and his nightmares naturally ease as he has people to open up to without shame and to hold him close at night.
I think the most fun way is that after dating a while and having Spock disappear in the middle of the night Often after a nightmare, he (and maybe both his BFs but honestly it’s McCoy) and Leonard get into a fight about how he’s neglecting his emotional health and it’s not goddamn logical to ignore the human half of his brain even if he prefers Vulcan culture because he’s going to cause himself mental damage if he doesn’t allow his brain support in a necessary processing function! And then Jim and Leonard bully Spock into medically commanded cuddles and forcibly make him feel accepted for something he’s long felt ashamed of. And they all live happily ever after.
Anyways, I just love the idea of Spock finally getting support in ways he hasn’t what with being so tied between cultures. I want to give my boy angst and then get him a smooch on the forehead.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! Send me your most heinous headcanons about Daryl, Spock, or whoever you’ve had a headcanon about for ages and no good place to put it!!

SNW Spock slowly falling in love with a badass would include:
•he really tries not to be prejudiced towards people he’s just met. But something about you cuts straight through his logic and instinctively, instantly he dislikes you.
•and he’s none too subtle about it. Every time you step forwards with a new idea, every time you make a suggestion, he raises one eyebrow and immediately point out every single flaw in your plan. But you don’t sit idly by and take it…you fight back, arguing with him until you’re breathless!
•Spock thinks you’re reckless and impulsive, the very worst things to be. So he’s strict and relentless with you- cutting, scathing remarks, tearing up your work until you do it properly.
•there’s so many clashes- Captain Pike and Una are both fed up of being called over to your joint work stations to resolve disputes. But neither you nor Spock notice the frowns, sighs and smiles that are directed at you both from Number One and Captain- they can see how much you and Spock both seem to thrive on the fiery interactions; a begrudging comradeship is eventually formed.
•it all reaches a head some months after you’ve joined the crew, Spock very reluctantly has conceded that you are at least well qualified in your chosen field…though his dislike is still apparent, to you at least. But then one day you’re on an away mission, and you spot a danger that Spock hasn’t seen!
•so you act without thinking- you take the hit (literally as it’s from a gun of a native to the planet) and Spock is left cradling your injured body as you pass out.
•it’s not until you come round, having been healed in the Medbay by Dr M’Benga that you realised Spock hadn’t left your side. The minute your eyes were opened he launched into a speech about how reckless and irresponsible you’d been…but the whole time one of his hands was holding yours, stroking your fingers. He didn’t even realise it.
•but you did. It’s what your eyes strayed to, it’s why your face felt hot, why your heart started to pound with excitement. Eventually his eyes followed yours, and he blushed bright green! He dropped your hand like it was a hot cake and ran away.
•for the next few days as you rested and returned to light duties Spock avoided you, and you found yourself so annoyed. You were angry that he would kiss you like a Vulcan would and then avoid you like you’d given him a slap!
•actually you thought that might be a good idea. You tracked him down, letting yourself into his office and locking the door before he could even raise one of those impeccably groomed eyebrows.
•as he stood to greet you, and no doubt ask why you’d locked the door, you smacked his round the face and started to angrily shout at him that his absence, his deliberate avoidance, had caused you pain! You wanted to know how he could be so much of a coward!
•well it was like a red rag to a bull. He started to argue back at you too, letting his voice raise a little in a demonstration of his anger.
•your tempers were flaring, chests heaving, breath coming in snatches as you attempted to out shout the other. You weren’t quite sure who started it, but somehow you found yourself being laid back against the table top of the desk, as his lips fought furiously with yours to claim victory, to maintain the silence.
•things needed to be said…but maybe not with words. Even though Spock tried to control the kiss you didn’t give in, you demanded your own pleasure too, pushing back for more intensity, more passion, and naturally he responded. It turns out you can both still argue, but it can have a much more exciting outcome.
Pairings: Yandere! Spock X Emotionally Unstable! gn!Reader
Summary: His reaction to you being emotionally unstable.
Warnings: Locked/kidnapped and emotionally unstable reader, anger, yandere, mentions of ignorantly hurting yourself
Vulcans aren't emotionless. They just had to suppress their emotions to get through the dark days and set sail for a bright future. 'Suppress your emotions and be logical.' That's something seems pretty impossible for humans. But maybe you're not the best example for that, because Spock thinks you're much more sensitive and fragile than other humans.
Taking care of you is quite an intense task for him because you need constant attention. It's not that he's tired of it or he doesn't want it. On the contrary, he loves taking care of you. It just requires some effort but he never complains about it.
He knows how to touch you to make you feel better. When to pat your head, when to kiss your cheek, when to hug you... It's hard for you to warm up to him, especially since you think he's keeping you against your will. This thought is something he finds quite illogical. You need him but you can't understand it, yet he doesn't force you. Forcing you would be to feed your already fiery feelings.
Although he loves you being so sensitive, he hates when you experience negative emotions on the edges. He wants you to experience positive emotions only, but unfortunately that is impossible.
When you get angry, you damage everywhere but it doesn't matter. Because Spock saw you hurt yourself as well. Tearing your throat while shouting, hurting yourself while smashing things… Your anger is too dangerous for you and he knows you can't comprehend what you're doing at that moment.
You cry when you start to feel the pain after you calm down and Spock hates to see it. You hold your neck, can't speak or swallow. Your hands ache and your feet hurt from random kicks, you can't walk.
When he sees your anger controls you, he hugs you even though you don't want to and sits on the floor. While stroking your hair, he whispers that he understands you. That how much he loves you, it doesn't have to be like this, he'll always be by your side, if you accept him everything will be easier...
Or when he sees you crying in the corner, he wants to come near, but you resist. Sometimes all he can do is stand there and stare at you because although it hurts him not being able to touch you, he thinks sometimes it's better for your feelings. It hurts Spock deeply that you reject him, but he would never tell you that.
You give Spock no choice. He locks you for being so vulnerable physically and especially emotionally. He can't let you walk around while you're like this. Not because he's worried about you trying to choke someone with your weak hands, after all, you're not always angry and you're not strong enough for that. It's because he's afraid they'll hurt your emotions. You're a very vulnerable, very sensitive human. His human. If someone hurts you, Spock knows he'll throw his Vulcan self away.
He remembers the anger he felt when Kirk accused him of never loving his mother in order to become the captain, or the pain he felt when he lost his home and his mother. He understands you. He doesn't want you to feel lonely or see him as a robot.
But you have to see a little bit of what makes sense. Spock will help you with everything else you struggle with when you accept his logic. If you can realize the fact that you have to be by his side, he'll always be there for you when you cry or rebel and find it difficult to accept this difficult process. He just wants you to see the necessity of his logic, but you can't see it. This makes it very difficult for him to console you.
But there are times when you melt him as much as you force him. You can be quite happy with even the smallest things. Although you threw the animal figure Spock gifted you that day, another day he can see you laughing at the noises it made when you push the head.
Or he enjoys watching you throw yourself on the floor when someone tells you something funny. Spock wishes he could always see you like this. For him, there is nothing in this universe that equals your happiness.
When you're more moderate like this, he takes great care to spend time with you. He makes detailed plans for you two to spend some quality time, hoping it'll affect how you think about him. He gets as close to you as he can emotionally and physically. He takes your hand and touches his nose against yours to tell you how much he loves you. He hugs you and wraps your arms around him, imagining one day you'll do it willingly.
These moments are really important, the only times you don't love him but don't run away. At least you're not throwing the gifts he give you. Or when he tells his feelings for you, you wait for him to finish and don't yell how much you hate him in the middle of his speech. You really hurt him when you yell at him that he's mentally ill or he's a monster, but he stays silent.
Hoping that one day, one day you'll love him, he stays silent and keeps his sadness inside him.
TOS Spock but flirting with reader and they don't have a clue.
Seriously, though, how do Vulcans flirt???🤔
Oh boy, this one threw me for a ringer!! Love it!! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing <3
- Okay, Vulcans definitely flirt. It’s just different.
- Since they‘re a highly intellectual species, and are less concerned with being sentimental, flirting is usually in the form of a conversation.
- The idea being: I want to share my mind with you. Because that’s the most precious thing to a Vulcan.
- Most Vulcans refuse to do anything that would count as “flirting”, but for Spock, flirting is sharing information and time.
- He asks you questions. All the time. It’s his way of saying “I respect you“, but also “I love the sound of your voice”.
- Usually it’s about missions, your opinions on things, or whatever your area of expertise is.
- This REALLY confuses you, because he’s so intelligent, and doesn’t usually want to hear others’ opinions. You take it at first that he’s trying to make fun of you.
- However, after spending more time together (another flirting technique, employed usually on the observation deck), you begin to realize he’s genuine. Still, from a human standpoint, it seems like he just wants to be friends.
- Spock is practically ripping his hair out (and everyone else on the Enterprise is too, for that matter) because he spends WAY more time and energy on you, but you’re still clueless.
- He’s constantly trying to get alone time in, and will plunge head-on into any conversation or debate with you. Still, you stand there and laugh and talk like you’re best friends.
- Finally, Kirk gets sick of it.
- Cue some REALLY awkward suggestions on flirting. Spock is mildly disgusted.
Partially because the ideas all sound stupid, but also because he knows you, and he knows you’d rather hear from him than a version of him edited to fit your human perspective. So he decides to approach you more directly, but still as himself.
- It‘s one night on the observation deck that he works up the guile.
”Ms. Y/N, I understand that I may have failed in this front thus far, but I am attempting to initiate a relationship with you. And I was hoping you have the same idea.”
- You’re shocked, to say the least, but everything suddenly clicks into place. All the coffees he’s brought you. All the stories he’s listened to you tell, and all the lab experiments he invited you to watch.
I’m an idiot, you think.
- But Spock isn’t looking at you like you’re an idiot. He’s looking at you like his life depends on your words.
