invisible threads HUGE spoiler chapter 12!
"Do you want to meet Lilith?"
“To be honest, I want to. I feel like you know me more than I know you, and knowing her will make me know you more,” Ava explains and makes a face at the end. “Did that make sense?”
Beatrice can't help but laugh softly.
“A little, I see that you know more things related to work than my personal life, am I right?”
"Yeah! Almost, I would say,” she sets her coffee cup on the coffee table and sits down on the empty seat of the sofa. “I know who you are, but you still don't seem to have said everything, silly and stupid things. Unique and stupid stories, their likes and disagreements. Like, girl, I want to know who you got into trouble with in high school, and I know you're only going to say these things over time. But I also know that Lilith will make me open my mind to you more, maybe by talking about how amazing you are and that you have terrible taste in validating films.”
Beatrice frowns, offended.
“I feel like I shouldn't have shown my Letterboxd username.”
“You're a public figure, everyone talks about the five stars you put on Shrek and one star on Avatar.”
“That one won the Oscar.”
“Avatar too.” Ava says calmly.
Unfortunately, Ava is incredibly endearing, and it's because of this that Beatrice grows fond of her with each passing day.
“But back to the topic,” Ava continues. “Lilith is your best friend for a reason, and I want to meet her. And yes, I know she's a bit... closed off? Too closed perhaps, but I know we can exchange a few words, it shouldn't be that difficult,” she adds, leaning down from the sofa enough to hold Beatrice's hand.
There is a short period of silence for both of them.
“Just to be clear, I never got into trouble in high school,” Beatrice says.
Ava can't help but laugh softly, invading Beatrice's personal space by sitting on her lap and starting to kiss her jaw. “Of course, we pretend you were the honor student,” she says in a low tone of voice, close to Beatrice's ear, who immediately bristles and becomes disconcentrated.
Beatrice's mind is on blue screen.
“But that was exactly it.”
"Hmm, that's it, keep lying to me."
"It's not a lie!" Beatrice says, though her smile widens so much that it hurts, even as Ava drops kisses to her collarbone. "I never went to the office because of bad manners."
"It doesn't mean anything, it still counts if you didn't get caught."
