A Little Infodump/Essay on AUDIOSURF(2008) & Why I Love it.
- BY ODDLYSPOOKZ
Audiosurf is a 2008 Rhythm racer released by independent game developer Dylan Fitterer on February 15th 2008 on Steam, funnily enough like a day or so after winning an award at the Independent Games Festival 2008 for Excellence in Audio (very cool!!) The game allows you to provide your own music files (like off an mp3 player or CD!!) But u can also use files off ur computer like .wav, .flac, .mp3 ect. The game then uses some like computer math stuff using different parts of the music to map out a track, on which you drive a little ship and, in the most basic main game mode, mono, the main goal is to collect as many and as big of clusters of points (in the form of the brightly colored cubes you encounter on your ride) You pick up the colored cubes and try to have them touching and fill your boxes (but be careful not to overfill them!) While avoiding the grey/stone cubes, getting a mono stealth bonus if you avoid picking up any.
I love it because of the driving/racing graphic, how simple it is to pick up but challenging to master enough that its not boring yet also not too frustrating
(Esp depending on the songs you pick and the difficulty you choose to play on) faster songs can be way more difficult than ones with a slower tempo and such.
Also the graphics are so pretty to me as well.
All the cool geometric shapes moving to the beat as you fly by in the background, and the bright glowing neons against the dark background, with all the sleek, glossy and pretty details of the roads and surfaces. So cool!!!!
Even though it might be basically dead I still play it n I love it sm
