You wouldn't think a 110g creature could be intimidating until you have a post-torpor tenrec charging at you when you open his cage door. 💀 And no, I do not have pictures bc I rushed to dish up the wet food and bugs while I had Jurassic Park music playing in my head!
Spoon's viv is starting to look more like a jungle, a bit at a time! I had a spider plant that was big enough to need repotting, but I'm out of space in my plant viv. So I decided to try a homemade hanging basket for it. 😂 I also added the ponytail palm we got for him recently!
He now has the spider plant, ponytail palm, birds nest fern, lucky bamboo, and three little pothos clippings I got from the one taking over Charis's viv. Vaguely planning to add some wall planters eventually & put pothos clippings in them to replace the remaining fake plants.
All the animal room boys made me happy today. Ed was slightly worrying me by staying in his hide the past couple days, but he came out today & ate half his salad on his own. He got 4 small roaches as a reward, basked, and is back up on his normal branch.
Jack gave Spoon a bowl of worms tonight & Spoon absolutely smelled the mealworms and came zooming out going !!!!! I SMELL THEM GIMME !!!!!! He still wouldn't come to the bowl until we moved away, but it was so nice to see him go nuts over them again. We're gonna weigh him this weekend - he lost fully half his weight in torpor this winter, from 200g down to 100g. It's still a safe enough lower weight & he seems fine, but that was a huge drop & we were a bit alarmed!
And Posy was thrilled to get his yard greens, which is still always cute to watch. He ate oats from Joel's hand, which delighted them both. And the big box of orchard hay I ordered came today, so I put a BIG pile in & Posy thought it was basically Christmas.

I gotta say, at least having hermit crabs as one of my first pets really taught me to manage my anxiety with having an animal that just disappears/is inactive for large periods of time. Now I have a tenrec and a bearded dragon, both in torpor or brumation, and I still Hate It but handling it better than expected.
