Was inspired by seeing @tired-lamb colorpick the polyamorous flag from her beloved TLG poly ship to do the same with my beloved TLG poly ship

Thinking about how What Is This Feeling? from Wicked fits Spotted Lion Polycule because all 3 ships that make it up have hated each other at some point in the past.

"Every little trait, however small/ Makes my very flesh begin to crawl"

Kion: "Why...you're a hyena!" Jasiri: "Why yes. I am." "Why would you help me?! You're a hyena!" "You lions really do think all hyenas are bad."

Kion and Jasiri (mostly Kion) hated eachother when they first met each other. Kion's racism/prejudice towards hyenas makes him just see Jasiri as a threat overall, and doesn't listen to her when she gives him directions to leave the outlands/her territory. Jasiri gives the attitude back to him and let's him lead himself into a thornbush.

Then he sprains his paw and is surprised when Jasiri helps him out, but he still doesn't trust her fully. Then when he ignorantly assumes she doesn't know about the Circle of Life and tries to teach it to her, she teaches him Sisi Ni Sawa. And then later in the episode, he helps her fight off Janja and his clan, and they become friends (and more).

Kion gives Jasiri someone she can trust outside of her clan and herself, helping save her clan's watering hole from Zira and later the Outlands as a whole. Jasiri helps Kion defend the Pridelands against Scar's army, and later goes back to him to warn him about Zira's pride (parallels/full circle moment).

"For your face, your voice, your clothing! Let's just say...I loathe it all"

"Hyenas should be rotten/ Hyenas should be mean/ But then you've got Jasiri/ She's like nothing that you've seen!"

We don't know when these two starting hating each other, but we know from Never Judge a Hyena by its Spots, they're both established enemies to each other by that point. Janja hates Jasiri because she respects the Circle of Life, basically the opposite of what the negative stereotype of hyenas stand for - and being ally to Kion, the Lion Guard, and the Pridelands.

Jasiri hates, or atleast doesn't like Janja because of the opposite. Attacking her on his territory, forcing him out of her own, attacking her family and friends, etc. She still sees the good in him, even if he doesn't see it himself, and saves him from falling into lava during the Hyena Resistance, and tells him he doesn't have to side with Scar anymore.

And then while he lashes out physically, Jasiri's offer stays with him mentally throughout the rest of the war. He questions whether the war is worth it for him and is clan, and it isn't until he and his clan betrayed by Scar, and he changes For Good (get it?) because of her.

Plus, I'm gonna be honest: this song very The Worst Hyena We Know coded.

"Leave Janja to me!" "I told you to stay out of the Pridelands/Did ya? Must have forgot!"

These two have hated eachother since they were KIDS lmao. The Lake of Reflection basically shows us that Janja and Kion became enemies on sight after Kion and the rest of the soon to be Lion Guard saw Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu stealing baby Ono's egg. The way they personally seek eachother out during fights (mostly Kion, AGAIN, mind you) is so funny because what do you mean you've had a heated rivalry with eachother since you were 5, and now your 12 and still fighting him, and now you're 16 and still fighting the going for the same guy specifically.

Okay jokes aside, Janja hates Kion because he always messes up his plans and ruining his chances to literally just eat (minus overhunting). Kion hates Janja because he overhunts and attacks him family and friends.

And then during Battle For the Pridelands, when Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu distract the Lion Guard while Scar's army traps them in a fire in Priderock, Kion says "I respect all parts of the Circle of Life, even the lives of those who don't" (or something similar).

Honestly, I don't know what to put for them :/. But I do think that Janja was surprised that Kion and Jasiri were able to forgive him so easily after everything. Plus with Jasiri teaching Kion Sisi ni Sawa, Kion's mindset towards Janja probably changed too. Yes, he's still his enemy, but I think he had a sliver of hope things would change for him too. And they both played a part in summoning Scar as well, as well as living under his shadow/watch too.

Hi Spinny! A little over a week ago I made a post about a TLG au where Kion is the one to save Janja from the steam vent instead of Jasiri; what are your thoughts on this?

ah yes, this post!! i absolutely love the idea! i think it adds so much to kion's relationship with janja, showing that there's more to those two than fighting constantly, even during the war kion chooses to save his proclaimed worst enemy. i definitely agree that it doesn't dampen down jasiri's role in janja's redemption either. it's perfect for the spotted lion polycule! :]

Janja: You are the love of my life and I would do anything within reason to make you happy. Jasiri: I would be happy if you ate, stayed hydrated and got a reasonable amount of sleep. Janja: I said within reason, Jasiri. How about I murder that guy? Jasiri: So murder is within reason but proper self care isn't? Janja: Well, duh. What kind of question is that? Kion: The moon looks beautiful, doesn’t it? Janja, looking at Kion: Yeah… but do you know what’s more beautiful? Kion and Janja in unison: *sighs* Jasiri Janja, trying to flirt: So, you come around here often? Kion, confused: I mean, this is my home, so yeah. Janja: *pretending to joke* So when are you going to go out with me? Kion: I don't know. When are you going to ask me to? Later: Jasiri: And you just ran away?! Spotted Lion Polycule my beloved

Was thinking about a season 2 au where, instead of Jasiri, Kion saves Janja from the steam vent. Kion tells Janja after he asks why he saved him that Jasiri once told him Sisi Ni Sawa and that he wanted to extend that same paw to Janja. They offer Janja an allyship and Janja rejects, but now every time they clash past this event, Janja stops seeking out Kion in the battle and starts trying to avoid them. He can't bring himself to actually really try to kill Kion anymore, and Scar, who's noticed Janja's newfound reluctance at this point, leaves out the part of the plan in Battle for the Pridelands where the Lion Guard is going to die too, simply telling Janja that the purpose is to keep the Lion Guard elsewhere while the rest of the Royal Family perishes. Janja, after escaping the lair, gets help from Jasiri, and the rest of the episode follows as normal.

I think ultimately the trajectory of the story doesn't change too much, but there are some things this would effect.

First of all I think this would lead to Janja tagging along on the journey to the Tree of Life. He and Kion end up bonding a lot on the journey, and help each other with their traumas regarding Scar. His dynamic with Fuli would be so funny because in front of Kion they'd try to keep their bickering to a minimum but once Kion's back is turned they're squabbling over something or another.

Secondly this would obviously change the trajectory of the ships. I personally think this is a situation that would lead to Spotted Lion Polycule. Obviously Spotted Lion would happen on some level, but since Janja already had a small crush on Jasiri that he was suppressing like crazy and she is still very much a part of Janja's redemption through Kion(and she likely still gets to save him herself during the first song of Battle for the Pridelands), I think there's a good chance the three could end up together. Jasiri ends up hanging out with Janja a bunch on the way back from the Tree after she comes to warn the Guard about Zira, and once they get back Janja would be spending a ton of time in the Outlands hanging out with his clan. Kion doesn't decide right away what they want to do now that they're no longer Guard leader, and Janja would also definitely be trying to encourage Kion to spend time in the Outlands with him, as he probably thinks this is the last decent amount of time they're gonna get with each other before Kion inevitably goes back to the Tree. And Janja loves Kion, but he can't leave his clan permanently, he'd never do that to them. To his complete surprise, Kion decides to stay in the Pridelands (and eventually the Outlands) instead.
