It's a gorgeous day here in Philadelphia, and the spring bird migration is underway. It's a great time to get outside and see what you can see!

(We've been seeing scores of Red Winged Blackbirds these past few days, which we take as a sign that spring is making an appearance!)

I actually saw every single one of these woodpeckers in my yard this week, which is kinda a big deal because that red headed is pretty elusive. The last time I saw him was 10 years ago! 😳 top to bottom, left to right, we have the downy, the hairy, the red bellied, the red headed, the northern flicker and the pileated. Not to mention the white breasted nuthatch on the trunk. Have you seen any of these feathered friends lately? This American Woodcock, Scolopax minor, struck a window of a NYC skyscraper this morning. It met their demise like many birds in NYC do. Human impact on the environment is often so sad and this beautiful bird most likely saw the reflection of the sky on the glass of the window not recognizing the building as an obstacle in its spring migration.

Since this bird is federally protected all I collected was this image. RIP beautiful little bird 🐦
