      He’s never believed in fate or destiny or karma, or anything else that suggests an ordained order to existence. There’s no such thing as jinxes or bad luck curses, just superstition and coincidence. The alternative is that some energy -- or the very universe itself -- cares enough about individual people to give them a personal middle finger whenever they call its bluff.

      A ridiculous notion, to think that a meaningless thought or action could bring things crashing down in an act of cosmic spite. But still something Miles knows better than to test. You ask yourself ‘what’s the worst that could happen?’ and suddenly you’re down two fingers and a car, and you’ve been shot to death. And maybe there isn’t a deity on high pulling those strings, but there are enough other things out there who would hear a challenge in that question.

   he should be used to marc’s outbursts by now. it’s not that marc has anger issues. he just tends to release tension very suddenly and...well, with anger. but steven can understand why now. doesn’t mean he can control the flinch at his words. marc once again has decided to be atlas and wear the world on his shoulders. but he doesn’t have to bear that brunt any more. he’s got steven and they’re not being split up any time soon. sure, at one point, steven would have given anything to never hear that american voice again. but with death came perspective and with the duat came...a lot of packed away trauma for a later date!

  steven mirrors his alter so they’re at the same level and he really gives him a once over. clearly, this has been building for a while. marc tends to bury things he thinks will harm those he cares for and while a noble attribute it means steven can’t help since he doesn’t know there’s a problem. “ you were being manipulated, marc. by a giant dead vulture who wouldn’t know kindness if it stuck a stick up his ass. you’ve always tried to do the right thing. failed a bit, yeah, but we all do that. remember that fight at mogarts? i fronted and got us bloody stabbed. we’re still alive, though. cause of you. without you, we’d both still be lost in the duat. ”

            Steven looked into the mirror, a mixture of shock and disappointment on his face. He and Marc didn’t really need to use the mirrors any more to visualize their communication, but with Jake it had always been hard. Steven had always viewed the man as a bit prickly. If he had to associate Jake with anything, it would be a cat. He wanted attention and affection, but as soon as you gave it he’s hiss and swipe at you. Steven shouldn’t have been surprised by Jake’s words, but he was. He thought they had finally started to make progress with one another. 

            ❝ That’s not really true though is it? ❞ He huffed. ❝ You say you ain’t loyal, but you’re always stepping in to protect us and get us out of hairy situation. ❞ Steven might not agree with Jake’s methods, but he kept them safe. He saved them. ❝ Seems pretty loyal to me. ❞

“ well you been punching that boxing bag thing pretty hard for a while now. think you got our knuckles pretty bloody. i’ve been trying to get your attention for like ten minutes now. need a cuppa and a chat? i can take over and make sure we don’t get gangrene. ” steven might be a bit squeamish but it’s the thought that counts.

He could practically feel the other man's gaze boring holes into the side of his head for the better part of the last couple of minutes. Gaze flickered toward the other and a small smirk curled at the corner of his lips when he noticed the way Steven's gaze darted away. There was something amusing about the fact that he couldn't meet his gaze right away.

"You're making it super obvious," the older mean teased. He did not even try to hide his amusement about it. And, unfortunately for Steven, all of Robert's attention was now on him.

that's... a strange request, one he doesn't hear from jake very often and briefly, he ponders what brought on the shift in mood. not that he minds switching but this has only happened once before. he rolls on top of the other and lays on his chest, looking down at him with a mixture of concern and soft adoration.

❝ we don't have to do this tonight if you don't feel up to it. i won't be offended. ❞ he reassures, in case jake feels pressured to please him, however he pauses to consider his words of doing anything he wants to him. ❝ but... if you sincerely do want to do this... ❞ he doesn't want to do anything too intense, lips pursing as he thinks on what they could do that wouldn't be too taxing. ❝ can i blindfold you? and use those leather cuffs on you? aaaand... hmm... music or no music? ❞ it'll take a little bit of setting up but he thinks it'll be worth it and enjoyable for jake if he wants to continue on.
