Roy + Johnny + Post-Run Checkups 🩺
Randolph Mantooth as Fireman Paramedic Johnny Gage in Emergency! (RIP)
If only Station 51 had had a skylight
Then Johnny would've had blue skies to look at while he waited for Roy, who was on the phone.
Emergency! - "Nurses Wild"
s1, ep8
Hi guys,
you must think I don't exist anymore but life's busy and when I have a free day, I mostly sleep. Sorry, my age is slowly showing. lol
Anyway, update time - for our favorite duo.
-> S02E16
No new pics in the following episode.
-> S02E18

-> S02E20
[if looks could kill]
-> S02E21
So, that's it for the boys with new pics of S2.
Just realized that I did more single shots the second time around. Anyway, when the main guys are covered, there will be some pics of the 'sidekicks'. *grins*
Anyway, as an extra:
[Mike and Marco - with a slight moustache]
So, that's it - for sure.
Next time there'll be Cap with Johnny going on as well. With this mass of pics, I really need to see what I can post. Maybe little stories again. We shall see. *smiles*
Enjoy!
Obsessed with the cute ’70s paramedic show!!
I’ve been dying to make some fanart for this show, so here’s Roy, Johnny, and the squad. Ughh i just love this show, if you haven’t watched it I really recommend it!
Time process video and squad background up on my Instagram, will post them here later
Squad 51
A comparasion shot of the 2 Squad 51's. The 1972 version is on the left, and the 1974 one is on the right. The Squads were Dodge "Dually" vehicles (named because of the dual rear wheels) used by LACoFD at the time.
This is the best side by side shot I've seen of them, and you can see the differences between the two.
There is a very subtle difference in the shade of red, the 1974 version has the white light on it (the Specs from LACoFD specified the white light, but they then changed their minds, but the show Squad had already been built).
You can also see the difference in the grill betwqeen the 1972 and the 1974 Dodge.
Of course, in the Pilot, Squad 10 also was completely different, as it was an earlier model Dodge (it's actually a bit bigger than our beloved Squad. It also had a white light and a different lightbar).
Both the 1972 and 1974 Squad vehicles were built by the studio and were owned by them, and then given to LACoFD. After the show, the Squad (complete with its "51" logo was used by the County as a reserve vehicle.
I love to think of the thrill that people would have gotten when it was used (and it was) and they realised it was the Squad - Squad 51!!
This is a very rare photo of Squad 51 actually In Service (with another LACoFD vehicle behind). As you can see, it's the 1974 vehicle. Also note that they have changed the wording of "Rescue Squad" to "Paramedic" (which which was how the Paramedic vehicles were labelled). The Squad that were not crewed by Paramedics, still had "Rescue Squad" on them.
For many years the same Dodge "duelly" vehicles were used but at one point they trialled using trucks like the big box ambulances. These were great practically - as they could carry the equipment better and if necessary transport a patient.
However - the Paramedics hated them. Not because of practical reasons, but because they weren't The Squad . (gotta "awwwwww" at those ridiculous sentimental Paramedics!!!)
The picture below is the current Squad 51, located at Station 51 at Paramount Studios.
Yes - still a Dodge Dually, but now a dual cab as well (though that rear cab doesn't look like it would enable a grown person to sit in there).
Squad 51
Squad 51 is a 1972 Dodge D-300 truck, one of three identical body-style rescue squad vehicles ("squads" or squad truck) that were used in the filming of the television series Emergency! Later models were retrofitted with 1972 model year grilles, so that the extensive stock footage filmed of the squad on city streets could continue to be used.
Because of the tight filming schedule, Universal Studios decided to build the vehicle entirely from scratch according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department's specifications at that time. After the filming of Emergency!, Universal Studios donated Squad 51, and it was used as a reserve paramedic vehicle by the LACOFD. In 1999 the title was transferred, and Squad 51 was then donated to the Los Angeles County Fire Museum in Bellflower, California. In the same year it was thoroughly and completely restored by the museum, at a cost of approximately $30,000. Squad 51 is now residing with its co-star in Emergency!, Engine 51, which completed restoration in 2012.
Squad 51 also made appearances in TV hit show CHiPs at times including season 3 ep.17 E.M.T.
Plans call for the museum to completely restore all of the period equipment used during the filming of Emergency!
In 1999, Project 51 took off along with Squad 51 and many of the cast members from Emergency!, and made appearances in Southern California, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Chicago, Long Island, Baltimore, Hyattsville and Washington DC.
The museum will eventually build a new facility to house the squad and engines in a rebuilt facade of Station 127 in Carson, California, where the show was filmed.
On July 9, 2011, on the apron in front of Station 127 (which doubled as "Station 51" during the series), the newly restored 1973 Ward LaFrance Engine 51 was unveiled next to its old running mate, Squad 51. Thousands of people from around the world were in attendance
