Oh believe me, I 100% am. Sometimes I look at them and love them so much that I vow definitely not to murder them the next time one of them pukes on the bookshelf. :D

AHAHAHAH I suppose it does, you’re right. It’s actually an airplane -- I think a Mustang? I’d need to look it up. That’s a poster for All My Sons, an Arthur Miller play I worked on in undergrad -- it deals with the fallout from war profiteering during WWII specifically in regards to airplanes.

No, I hadn’t even heard of such a thing! I don’t usually drink full-sugar soda so I can’t imagine I’d like it, but if I see it I’ll try it out :D

I wish! I was planning to until I realized they make one for you. My theme for my island is “tacky entertainment park” -- it’s basically built around the idea of cheesy roadside attractions you find off the highway. So there might be a Sharkland or something! Right now the two I’ve started building are Scale Land, where it’s basically just a maze path full of things that aren’t the right size (the small lighthouse, giant teddybears, etc) and Dino Camp, which is the campground they make you install, but all around it are dinosaur skeletons that are poorly and incorrectly assembled. 

The first thing you see when you get off the plane are a) a pizza stand and b) a vending machine. :D

She also looks like she’s about to jump off the bed and wants to make sure she can land in the convenient pile of laundry, er, I mean, haystack.

She is actually overlooking what I call “cat canyon”, which is the roughly one-foot gap between my bed and the wall that the cats like to use as a thoroughfare to get off/under/past the bed.

It was not, strictly speaking, Will’s fault that he slipped. A man could not be expected to be prepared to step on ice at any moment in time, after all. It was one thing to be on ice one was prepared for and quite another to suddenly happen upon, say, a patch of ice hidden under some snow on the front steps of one’s apartment building. His arms were full of groceries, in his defense, and as his footing slid out from under him in front of God and everybody, in occurred to him that rationalization might be a very weird response to finding oneself moments away from completely eating shit.

Except he didn’t hit the pavement face first. 

Somebody caught him, all two-hundred and something pounds of him. The sound Will let out was not at all dignified, and he grabbed at the person without thinking. It was a small miracle they didn’t both fall at that point.

“I hope you didn’t have eggs in there,” a warm voice said. 

Will looked down at his grocery bag. “I did,” he said. Fuck. Looking back up, he blinked at his savior’s bright smile. “Hidden ice,” Will said, after a moment. 

“Yeah, but -- dude, don’t you play hockey for a living?” the man asked. He had green eyes, not that Will noticed, and he brushed his hands over Will’s shoulders before letting go, like there was snow all over him, or something. “Ice is kind of your thing, right?”

“Uh,” said Will, because yes, yes he did. He did play hockey for a living. Still, ice at a rink and ice in the wild were different beasts. “I’m used to domestic ice,” he said, like an idiot, and the man laughed.

Will wasn’t making sense.

“As opposed to wild?” the man asked, and Will blinked at him, because yes, actually, but  -- how’d he follow that?

“I’m Derek,” the man added, after a moment.

WIP Wednesday

@srprincess and I are thinking alike today: 

so wide I can only get a photo by folding it in half. 

I’m going to run out of the top magenta yarn (which is no longer manufactured) so I will have to put this blanket back into the naughty corner until I decide what to do about missing magenta stripes. 

But until that running-out moment, I need to finish as much as I can while I have the motivation. This impulse to make progress does not last forever -- and does not respect the sanity/insanity of working under piles of wool on summer afternoons. 

I think there’s a proverb for that: Strike while the iron is hot.

What happened at dinner? Should you have skipped it for extra cake instead?

Dinner was supposed to be Sloppy Joes...except the meat turned out to be rotten which we didn’t know until AFTER it had been cooked. So my mother, sister and I went to Burger King where my sister and I had disappointing bacon cheeseburgers (mother was satisfied with her plain cheeseburger). The cake (store bought) was raw in the middle.

Does Dark Sky have the numbers for air quality? It’s still not free on iOS, but I’d get it if it did.

It does not appear to. I didn’t look, because for me it’s not a huge concern, but I just went back in and it’s not a visible feature, nor is it listed as one in the Paid App Perks section. Sorry! Weatherbug does, and you can even move it up to be one of the first things you see.

I’m a barista and you’re the obnoxious customer who comes through and orders a venti macchiato while talking on the phone the whole time so I misspell your name in increasingly creative ways every day AU —I don’t know if this is so much a prompt request, as it is me saying ‘omg I am going to do this at work now’ buuuuuut if you wanted to take it as a prompt, I am very curious to see who you would pick for it :)

The door opened and Justin looked up, sighing a little as he realized who had just entered the cafe.

That guy was always on his phone. Like, always. He ordered a venti macchiato every time, never anything else – not a flavor, not a different size, nothing. He never bothered to hang up to order and he wasn’t pleasant, either. It was intensely annoying. Plus, his name was Connor. Like, really?

Justin was not in the mood. To be fair, it was ridiculously early, and he’d been up late working on his thesis. When Connor barked his order, Justin just waited for him to pay instead of saying anything. After all, the guy should know the total by now, right?

He didn’t appear to notice.

Justin scribbled Conner onto the cup out of spite.

The next day, he wrote Konnor. After that? Konner. Cahner. Cahnohr.

Eventually, when he’d scribbled some random nonsense grouping of letters that looked like one of those ‘but the y is silent!!’ garbage situations, Connor stayed at the bar instead of walking away. Justin gave him a bright smile as he watched him hang up the phone.

“Have a great day!” Justin said.

“This is not how you spell my name,” said Connor.

Justin blinked. “Is it not?”
