Let's talk about the second to last song on Will Byers' official playlist, which we have long since deciphered are all in chronological order.

This. This is what we just witnessed in that scene. This is what worried people. That first lyric being represented.

But do you know what the other lyrics of the song are?

Will said he "knows [Mike] isn't like him"? Well,

Notes: This playlist comes from a leak posted to Tumblr by @will80sbyers. Once again, it's not an official playlist, but I figured it might interest some people, so I've included it here.

Edited (Feb 22, 2025): Added a playlist containing the songs from the leaked WSQK 1967 Top Songs graphic. Edited (Sep 2, 2025): Added "V.2" playlists of Mike's Bassment Beats and Eleven's Breakfast Jams because, according to users who were active in the fandom in 2022, the official playlists were updated during this time. Thus, I've added back the copies of Mike's Bassment Beats and Eleven's Breakfast Jams that were made in 2022 by ash on Spotify. To prevent confusion, the original copies from 2018 made by Jason on Spotify are labeled as 'copy v.1' and the copies from 2022 made by ash on Spotify are labeled as 'copy v.2.' I've also added a "V.2" playlist of STurn by Finn Wolfhard on Spotify because it seems that he removed 3 songs from the playlist sometime in mid 2025. Mike's playlist is what I mean when I say they aren't queer baiting because they'd be going above and beyond.

Queerbaiters say in interviews how cute the ship is and our it on posters. They sell merch, for sure.

But who the fuck queerbaits only for the people who will go find a 5-year, now 8-year, old playlist, then chooses not believe the lie you pedaled directly that the songs were the character's taste and not the character's story, listens through and identifies that the songs are in chronological order and finds that they imply Mike has feelings for Will, then not only that, but instead of PROMOTING this queer bait, as bait is meant for, to dangle and taunt in front of your target, they TAKE IT DOWN ALL TOGETHER in advance of the final season.

Yes, famously, queerbaiting techniques are a secret scavenger hunt that are actively reserved and hidden by the marketing team.

It's still crazy btw that they not only deleted all but Byler's playlists and left them up for another six months, that that they then deleted Byler's playlists as well, but also that they did it on Will's birthday

Simultaneously acknowledging the focus of Byler in the show, the content of the playlists being spoilers, AND birthdaygate

The possibility that "Don't You Want Me" is used twice on Mike's playlist far apart because it goes from being about El to being about Will. Astounding reusage if so. Baby, you know I love me some recontextualization of identical content.

Sorry but it is hilarious that the songs about Mike on Will's playlist are like Don't You (Forget About Me) and heartbreak ballads here and there and then Mike has stuff like Angst In My Pants, and Teenage Kicks a few tracks between Love is a Stranger and Destination Unknown all add up to just be "YOU'RE LIKE REALLY HOT WHAT DO I DO IT WON'T GO AWAY FUUUUUUCK". That's so chaotic of them I love the combination.

Anyways, so yeah I forgot that Teenage Kicks was on his playlist that's really funny 😭. Queer trauma and then it's just like "interjecting to remind you that a queer 13 year old boy is still a 13 year old boy" 😭😭😭
