Hello to my fellow current UWaterloo students or any year, faculty or program,
I want to take some time to talk to you about something very important! Mental Health, and a student initiative called Stand Up To Stigma. If you've already heard of it, that's wonderful! If not, I encourage you to keep reading because this is an incredibly important issue.
I'll try not to ramble on here, but just so you more I'll try to summarize:
Stand up to Stigma is aiming to reduce the stigma around mental health
it's a student initiative, not run by counselling/health services
mental health issues will affect 1/5 this year
mental health affects basically every part of ourselves and the world around us
it's time to start a discussion, open up this problem and improve awareness
So, why am I saying all this seemingly out of the blue? Well first, I believe in the cause. Secondly, I'm getting involved. Thirdly, each of us on the team want to see you and have you be part of this too.
When is this all happening? Next week! From October 1st - 4th you'll find the team members around different parts of campus from 10 am - 2 pm. You can come sign the pledge, get your photo taken (by me! I'm doing photography for two of the days) and even just sign our banner. Come check it out!
You can find us at:
Monday October 1st - DC and BMH (come see me at BMH)
Tuesday October 2nd - DC and MC
Wednesday October 3rd - AL, ENV3, SCH (come see me at ENV3)
Thursday October 4th - CPH and DP
If you're at all interested in finding out more please send me a message! I can direct you to the leaders of the initiative. You can also find more information here, here or on twitter @standuptostigma
