prompt: I haven’t seen you in too long.
*****************************************
You stared into the corridors of the library. You remembered those days long past, before Metatron had died, two years ago. Missing him, it was a constant ache. You had never spoken to Sam, Dean, or Castiel again, blaming them, and blaming Amara most of all. Your hate for her hurt you more than words could describe.
Metatron was the best thing that had ever happened to you. He pulled you away from your bad habits, and you had fallen back into all of them about a month after he died. You regretted it. You wanted to hold on to your fixed self for him, but it just… slipped away.
So, you had turned to the last hope you had. It was a complex spell, meant to call any creature back from the dead for a certain amount of time. You felt weak. The spell required a lot of blood.
Latin escaped your lips. They were cracked from crying. The voice that expelled itself shook, it was dry and quiet. Talking wasn’t something you did lately.
The sigil on the floor, splattered across the floor, began to glow, and with every ounce of hope in your body, you prayed. You had never really been a praying type, but you prayed like never before. The words slipping into the air would have put the proudest priest to shame.
The glow intensified, growing, the light overtaking you, filling you with a delicious warmth. Those old familiar smells cascaded over you, and years of pain broke. Tears raced down your cheeks and you fell to your knees and started crying.
Old books, dusty shelves, sunlight, warmth– over and over and over, wave after wave, you shook beneath it on the floor, crying, trying to shield your face but not wanting to at the same time- because each smell was so uniquely him.
Then the unthinkable.
You felt a gentle hand on your shoulder. A little light, yes, but…
Eyes darting up, you gasped, and your tears stopped abruptly, too startled to keep crying.
“Metatron?”
The angel grinned down at you, then it ebbed to a more gentle smile. He pulled you to your feet while you gaped at him. He said your name softly.
“Is… is it really you?” Your eyes felt puffy.
“Yeah.” He shrugged, the smile growing, and he gently touched your face. “I haven’t seen you in too long.”
“I thought… I thought, whatever Amara killed, it was just.. nothing-” Your voice cracked and you fell forward onto his shoulder. Sobs wracked your body as you wrapped your arms around his frame and cried.
“I- I’m here now.” He ran his fingers through your hair. “Come back with me.”
“What?” You murmured the word into his coat. It still smelled the same.
“Come back with me.” He repeated. “It’s better than here. You can still see them.”
“I don’t want to.” Muffled. “I only want to be with you.”
Vaguely, you felt a sense of weightlessness. A second later, you realized you were dying. Either blood loss, or your wish being granted, you didn’t know. All you knew was that wherever you were going, you were going with him.

Story of the Stars ||Chapter Two||
I heard Sam say something, but I couldn’t tell what it was. Sighing, I turned my attention back to the book. I was five more pages into it before an intense feeling of foreboding crept over me. I looked up, and noticed a silhouette moving behind the bookshelves. I jumped to my feet, trying not to cause too much noise. My mind raced to find the quickest way to break that I was still here without being overly startling.
Now, let me pause right there. No, I had no intention of appearing out of nowhere. I wasn’t that kind of person, like I said before. I didn’t want to scare anyone. But let me make one thing clear, after all, if I did just appear out of nowhere, I could likely get shot.
So I moved behind a shelf and shifted the books slightly. I heard him start, then say, “Who’s there?”
“S-sorry!” Trying to sound as contrite as possible, I stepped out from behind the shelf, getting a good look at him for the first time. My first impression was actually fairly accurate. I watched his eyes dart from my face to my feet, then he stepped towards me, a guarded expression on his face.
“Who are you?”
“Zoe Rowan.” I replied apologetically. “I was… just reading.”
“Reading what?”
I held up The Maltese Falcon and grinned sheepishly. “This.”
“You like a mystery?” His guarded eyes darted down and came back up with a hint of skepticism.
“I’m kinda living one.” I attempted a laugh and looked down. “Uh.”
Maybe, I thought, this had been a mistake. Most likely, Metatron was a vengeful angel who had every intention of killing me. Maybe more now that Dean and Sam might have pissed him off. Instead, he surprised me by saying, “Did you come here to call me a coward too?”
It caught me off guard. “What do you mean?”
“What.” He scoffed. “You don’t know that they came in here and… and called me out on what I’ve done? Hidden in here for centuries? You don’t think I know that I was reclusive? I’ve been hiding,” He concluded, more quietly, “from humanity, and now it just busts in here and decides to give me the know how?”
“I didn’t know what they came in here to do.” I shook my head. “I just came with them to see what was up. And I kinda like your library.”
“You do?”
“Yeah, it’s kinda my thing.” Of course… I didn’t add that drinking and whoring around was kind of my thing too. It was shameful to admit, but it was, and moving on… that was my plight with Sam and Dean. Maybe, just maybe, I could use my absence from them to get away and go into it again.
