Day 8 - Star

Night was the most active time of the daily routine. Under the cover of darkness, men could leave the cover of their trenches to perform duties outside, such as repairs, recon, scouting, listening, and raiding. The risks of infiltration and attacks were ever present for both sides, and so commanders often took every possible measure to guard against the enemy. Sentries and listening posts were established, with regular rotations to keep fresh eyes and keen ears on the front.

An important part of these countermeasures was the use of white illumination flares. These would be shot over no man’s land to hopefully reveal any attempt of infiltration. Colored flares could also be used to convey prearranged messages over long distances.

While it was common for officers to have flare guns in the front, the most effective flares were fired by cannons from behind the line. These large flares, known as star shells, would be fired over no man’s land and its drop would be slowed down by a parachute. A special fuse would light a magnesium flare at a given height, thus not revealing the position of the gun, unlike a pistol flare, and the light it provided was much stronger. These star shells could also be colored for the same purpose as mentioned above.

When do you think the album will be released? And do you think it will have past songs like lost in perspective, star shell, and green nocturne? :)

I can’t exactly say when It’ll come out. Since they have Nell’s Season in May, it’s very likely the album could be out before that. It’s happened like that in the past. Also, turns out, Lost in Perspective is actually off the new album.With Star Shell and Lost In Perspective, they veered off in a direction I didn’t think they would go so… possibilities are endless.-Admin A

Just want to add that the album probably won’t be out until after Nell’s Season is over. They’re supposed to perform one new song at each concert, and I think I read an article somewhere saying that it’s supposed to be out 6 days after the last concert. Don’t quote me on that, though; I might have misunderstood. Either way, it’ll be soon!  - Admin S
