this was considered an outlandish joke in 2014
No-one's suicide is something to be celebrated, but I am noticing today the woke folks on the left are using his death to distract from the web of lies and fraud that finally got him sacked from his entirely unearned position of power and privilege. Their position is that if everyone had just gone along with his lies and kept quiet about his fraud then he would still be alive today. Their position is we should all keep quiet about all the other lies and fraud out there going forward and then everything will be fine.
Possibly the most sensible commentary on this I've seen:
A week on and the story has progressed, with woke activists taking up Arday as their new Jussie Smollett and claiming he was "hounded to death", rather than simply exposed as an incompetent liar and fraud, and now the people who exposed his fraud are being targeted and sacked from their jobs.
It's an upside down world we live in, where lies are decent and good and truth is hate speech.
Looking into this further, it turns out "Petra De Sutter" is a trans activist who was similarly exposed for plagiarism and using ChatGPT to write his/her speeches. What a nest of vipers the entire education system now is.
People that enabled him are only slightly less responsible for how this all ended than he is for starting it off in the first place.
Reading some of the different bits about the whole thing it feels like the guy started out doing it all on a dare/bet to see how outlandish he could make his life story before getting called out and he either ended up believing his own bullshit or had dug himself in so deep that the only way he had left to go involved a shovel and going deeper.
Cambridge not checking on the Ohio State thing alone is a massive stain on their record for this and whatever passes for standards there, this nonsense has just devalued every diploma they've ever handed out.
researching the history of education in japan and learning that, pre–Meiji Restoration, peasants/commoners formed their own schools to become educated because it was the best way of fighting tax fraud.
That is, when an official told you, a rice farmer, that you owed more taxes than you really did, it was very useful if you were good enough at math to know he was lying (and could prove it) and if you were good enough at writing to write a letter to your government defending your case.
all of which is to say it's crazy that mega-corporations are now pushing education to be "what if you paid us whatever we tell you to for the rest of your life and never do math or write anything ever again"
a funny thing about having conversations with people within institutions (academic in this case but also others) about gatekeeping, is that you end up having a conversation over and over in which you're like, "hey this alligator spike pit moat you have erected around your institution is keeping a lot of people out," and they're like, "well *I* navigated the alligator spike pit moat just fine," and you're like, "right. by dint of us having this conversation, you within the institution and me without, it is understood that you navigated the alligator spike pit moat. due to that being an inherent requirement of entering the institution," and they're like, "I don't think you understand the prestigious history of our alligator spike pit moat," and you're like, "is there a reason why there needs to be an alligator spike pit moat encircling the concept of higher education?" and they're like, "look, the alligator spike pit moat isn't for everyone. some people just aren't cut out for the alligator spike pit moat :)" and you're like, "right, yeah, like disabled people and people coming from poverty or unstable home environments or underserved communities or people dealing with difficult to navigate life events like pregnancy or abuse or prison or addiction or the death of a loved one, for example" and they're like, "how dare you imply that we are keeping those people out on purpose. it's their own problem if they can't wrestle the alligators and avoid the spikes while also disabled and/or poor and/or pregnant etc" and you're like, "well that seems evil," and they're like, "it sounds like maybe you're just bitter about the alligator spike pit moat because of your totally random individual experience with ONE bad alligator spike pit moat. have you considered therapy?" and you're like, "did you know that there's some patterns here in terms of how y'all are handling this stuff?" and they're like, "actually yes. we even have a department of alligator spike pit studies :)" and you're like, "that's great, how do I get access to and participate in those conversations?" and they're like, "well firstly you must cross the alligator spike pit moat"
I'm not a prayin' man, but the night I found out my at-the-time-fiancé had been sending sex horny nasty horny sex asks to my friend on THIS VERY WEBSITE, I sat in the car in the parking lot of an abandoned church and watched a family of deer play in the snow, and it didn't quite feel like a sign because that part of Pennsylvania was mostly deer and abandoned buildings and snow, but it felt nice, and once the tears stopped, I looked down at my phone and my other friend had sent me a text that said, "HE'S TRYING TO CHEAT ON YOU ON THE ONE DIRECTION IMAGINES WEBSITE?" and I realized that life is all about your curated experience. A real choose-your-own-adventure deal. I have never seen someone post about One Direction on here in my life.
Dang it Beans you get back here and say that out loud!!!
the only thing stronger than the gastric distress i get from eating cherries is my love for eating cherries
what
thank you. im once again reminded why i love tumblr because where else could i get content like this
They are even better 🌒
He said no way 🥹
i started reading this book and kept tilting my head at the comparisons the author was using so i started a running list of them
this author's use of imagery is so questionable
i actually went "what the fuck" and had to stop for like 5 minutes after this one
I feel like this is important information about this post.
I upset a few people in my intro to western philosophy class with this one.
I think it's a tragedy that modern depictions of knights hardly ever do the thing where knights in Medieval romances will regularly lose their minds and spend an indeterminate amount of time running around naked in the woods
It's just a thing that knights do sometimes
Probably the PTSD
i have this odd illness where i have to draw my favs as muppets i have to do it. i never even watched muppets i just have to do it
when i erase a word with a pencil where does it go
are you okay
They turn into those eraser shavings and then you swipe them off your desk and they land on the floor and someone steps on them and they stick on their shoe and eventually the person goes home so right now your word is at someones house
maybe its watching them take off their clothes yeah get it word
this fucking site i swear to god
