Okay soooo this rambles into other semi-related trains of thought way too much. I got carried away because this is my favorite fucking man and I have thought bout this subject in great detail but I hope you ENJOY!!! 😁
CAPTAIN REX PREGNANCY HEADCANNONS
I'd like to start this off by clarifying how I see Rex's character when it comes to romantic relationships bcs I fucking wanna talk about it, okay? Personally, I don't see Rex as a one-night stand kind of man due to his loyal heart and overthinking nature. For him to truly be comfortable enough with another person in which he would truly enjoy engaging into a sexual relationship, I believe he NEEDS a strong emotional connection with that person, first.
Rex is a planner. He's not one to jump into anything blindly without thinking about the long-term consequences or possibilities.
That being said, assuming he's actually in a long-term relationship with someone who is capable of getting pregnant and carrying life.. The brilliant mechanics of his awkward mind have already concocted up multiple scenarios in which you have become pregnant at his hand. And thus, how he may react.
Of course, Rex is a natural leader and an excellent teacher. Describing him as modest is an understatement however he is self-aware of his own strengths. Simply put, Captain Rex is a good capable man and he knows it. And the notion of having a family after the war is finally won is something he entertains thoughtfully. After all, isn't that what this is all for? Fighting evil to bring peace to the galaxy and ALL of its inhabitants? Him and his brothers included.
Once this Captain begins truly loving you.. Rex's plans for his future following the war are simple. Wherever you are and whatever you want. This is his future. He would follow you to the end of the mapped galaxy and work his hands to the bone, just to make you happy. And if creating a new life is a part of your desires, then by the stars, he would give that to you. Anything for you..
However, the idea of literally fathering a life and raising a child is quite scary to our boy, Rex. Not because of anything on his partners behalf, but mostly due to his own deep rooted insecurities surrounding his clonehood. He never experienced traditional adolescent life, nor had real parents to observe in his upbringing. Going into something blind is not how our Rex likes to do things and feels as though he'd be going into parenting blind as an Alderaaanian cave bat.
He worries that he may be cold and inattentive to his own child. What if the kid doesn't like him? He doesn't know how to cook and provide for a child?? What about education for the child? Not to mention his genuine fears of passing down the accelerated aging gene to any child he may spire..
Don't fret, dear reader, these fears don't completely deter his sweet fantasies of being called 'papa' by a mini-him! Oh no.. It's just something he hopes to happen, if the fates decide to treat him so kindly, after the war is won and once he's become more confident in himself as a man, and not just as a clone soldier for the Republic.
The idea of you becoming pregnant during the war, is honestly a super anxiety inducing theoretical for Rex. And he has, in likely more the most delicate and gentle way possible, expressed as much to you. The conversation of your contraceptives has been brought up more than once as he needs reassurance.
But, of course, the discussion of "What if we do accidentally become pregnant?" has also been had. Verdict; whatever you want to do, he will support your choice. Your body, your decision. However having nothing but pure adoration for you, Rex guarantees you that he would be there every step of the way.. Well, to the best of his ability anyways as he still remains part of the GAR.
So, lets say that you've found yourself pregnant during this time? While his priorities, against his will perhaps, lie elsewhere?
Upon hearing the news, our normally very competent and articulate Captain likely forgets how to function entirely.
Rex: *Internet dial-up sounds as his brain shuts down and processes the news he's just heard*
His amber eyes are busy at work but the rest of him remains still as a statue. The moment that you outwardly show any signs of hurt or worry at his lack of reaction, is when Rex forces himself to react.
"I-I'm sorry, the news just caught me off guard, cyare... I'm... I love you so much." He'd pull you possessively into his lap and hold you. Rex would stroke your hair and inhale your scent. Lips against your forehead in a tender reassurance of his dedication to you and the relationship. "I'm just processing the news, is all."
I ain't gonna sugarcoat it, babes. Emotionally, he's gonna need some real reassurance from you in regards to your plans for caring for this baby. Not that this man wouldn't do anything in his power to help you, but Rex feels absolute powerless in this situation.
This man is a weapon of the Republic, currently. There's no guarantee really as to how present he will be able be during your pregnancy or the milestones of his childs life. He has no prospects to provide to you, or his unborn child. No land. No credits. Not even a last name.. he is just a number.
Not to mention - Fathering children and maintaining relationships with civies is against protocol. No matter how proud Rex is to be with you, to be the father of the child you will bring into this galaxy.. Rex cant even be public about it. He cant tell his brothers and friends, and share his pride and joy with them. His family will remain secret. This is another part of fatherhood that he simply cannot have and it's gut-wrenching for him.
And knowing that the majority of, what should be joint responsibilities, will fall solely onto your shoulders.. makes him feels a twisted sort of melancholy. And there is an immense guilt overcoming him when initially hearing this bombshell.
Upon hearing your plans, and feeling assured that you will be okay in spite of his current circumstance - He attempts to think beyond his worries, and focus on the positives of it.
The fact that making love to you has created a life - is WILD. The person he loves, is carrying part of him inside themselves... Carrying something new and beautiful. This realization finally calms your Captain from his anxieties and he cries.
Rex holds you and simply weeps. Overjoyed that he is so lucky to be able to have something that is really, truly his.
Now, everything in his life is different. Even his behavior in the battlefield has changed. He looks upon families with a newfound gleam in his eyes, knowing this will one day be him and you. And his child.
While still always being careful during battle, Rex is now even more careful - Refusing to allow his child to be fatherless. He will make it to the end of the war, that he is sure of.
There's a couple of times when he's off-world in the marketplace, and see's baby goods. He has very little money.. but when no other clone is looking, he likes to pick up little toys and clothes for the little one to present you when he see's you again.
The look on your face when he starts showing genuine excitement makes him melt, and look to the future with excitement.
His future with his family.
It kills him still, that he isn't able to be there for the majority of your appointments. If he is able to be there for them though, he's so attentive! He asks the doctor questions and holds your hand. He's present mentally and physically, and it makes you both so happy!
When you present him with the first ultrasound photo he stares at it with stardust in his amber eyes for hours. He keeps a copy in his bucket so he can look at it when he's away.
He leaves the naming to you mostly - Simply approving or disapproving what you suggest. Though he does get you a baby name book and likes it when you read the names out to him.
He would be fine with any gender so long as the baby is healthy, but secretly wants a boy.
Rex. would. be the best snuggler while you are pregnant. he's be the big spoon 100% of the time all the while holding your stomach and smelling your hair.
Rex really considers telling Anakin about his situation. And though the men have never full discussed their romantic lives, there is an understanding that they both have secret priorities away from the Republic. Rex knows leagues more about Anakin's dedication to Padme, as Anakin is not exactly the best at navigating his relationship discretely... But Anakin definitely suspects that Rex has someone. It is never discussed. But especially as you grow more and more pregnant, Rex worries about being able to be there when you deliver. He owes it to you, and his child, to be there for this one. Maybe his Commander, his friend, could help him?
I gotta stop because this is going on to long but I think he'd initially shut down, feel despair, then beam with love and joy at the journey!
