Starpunk values: Respect for forebears
We can sometimes look down on and make fun of people in the past. Whether it's prehistoric people, people in the Middle Ages or people in the 1800s, it can be seen as acceptable to see them as less intelligent or foolish for things like using products that contain harmful chemicals, or believing in outdated science.
Finding a balance between respecting the humanity and human rights of people in the past, while not using moral relativism to excuse harm caused or human rights abuses is an important aspect of Starpunk. Connecting with humans of the past as real people who lived instead of concepts can help us view them with respect and kindness.
Part of the starpunk aesthetic that reflects this is cave paintings and admiring the art made by people in the past.
Part of the starpunk goals that reflects this is respectful handling of remains and demands to find justice for the remains of colonised and oppressed peoples. (Tw discussions of slavery.)
