“NABI SONYEO”
by Fin DAC
“There’s a certain degree of obsession that’s intertwined with being a great artist,” says Uproxx. With no previous training as an artist, Irish street art icon Fin DAC stumbled into art in the wake of a break-up, and his obsession grew out of a need to escape—and when he added the colorful masks that have now become a distinctive signature to his work his new career took off. Reflecting that obsession, Fin DAC recently spent 15 long days, assisted by Start Vault, aka Brett Crawford, fully immersed in painting this massive work on Shatto Place in Los Angeles. Battling the challenging texture of the wall, but also using it to advantage, these portraits of @alazay_official, @kolaj, and @erin_tequila incorporate a dimensional, kinetic technique he previously used for his piece inside Wynwood Walls. With some butterflies painted directly to the wall, another layer of butterflies is attached to fine netting and flutter in the breeze. @findac @startvault

“PAJARITO GORDITO”
by Start Vault
Looking at his work it’s hard to believe that self-taught San Clemente, California, artist Brett Crawford, aka Start Vault, stopped painting for 13 years before finally jumping back into the game in 2013. Gallery 38 attributes “his love for art history and the excitement of working with today’s street artists” as propelling him to pick up his brushes. Inspired to restart his art career by the late-great illustrator and designer Dugald Stermer, Crawford told Talenthouse that he was told to treat art more like a hobby and the passion for art he has recaptured clearly shines through everything he’s doing. Dubbed “pajarito gordito” (chubby birds) by the women of the neighborhood, these charming birds were painted at 48th and Western in Los Angeles for the Adam Ayala curated Smile South Central project and Start Vault says *This was my most fun mural to date.” @startvault @smilesouthcentral @gallery38 @talenthouse @scenesfromthesidewalk
