I am deeply alarmed by the relentless attacks on LGBTQ+ Americans, especially trans people and trans kids. As President Biden has said, it is Congress’s duty to protect the rights and freedoms of all people. That means passing the bipartisan Equality Act to ensure LGBTQ+ individuals can live with safety and dignity.
Right now, hundreds of state bills seek to strip LGBTQ+ people of free speech, health care, and civil rights—fundamental freedoms due to all Americans. Encouraging hateful rhetoric and violence is a dangerous precedent we’ve seen in history before. It must stop.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 26, 2019) - Last week, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed a bill into law decriminalizing the manufacture and possession of firearm suppressors in the state. The new law not only removes a layer of state regulation; it will help foster an environment hostile to federal gun control in Arkansas. Sen. Bob Ballinger (R-Berryville) introduced Senate Bill 400 (SB400) earlier this year. The new law repeals current Arkansas statutes prohibiting the possession, manufacture, transport, repair, or sale of firearm "silencers," more appropriately referred to as "suppressors." It also removes a prohibition on a "firearm that has been specially made or specially adapted for silent discharge," while modifying the prohibition on certain weapons so that a person must "knowingly" possesses or sells them. (Jan. 7, 2018) - A bill prefiled in the Missouri House would allow people with a medical waiver to possess firearm sound suppressors, partially nullifying some federal regulations in practice and effect. Rep. Ron Hicks (R-Dardenne Prairie) filed House Bill 302 (HB302) on Dec. 18. Under the proposed law, persons with significant hearing loss could legally possess a firearm sound suppressor, commonly referred to as a silencer. Any person with a written certificate from a licensed medical doctor, otologist, or neurotologist attesting that the person has significant hearing loss and that a firearm silencer would be beneficial to preserve the person's remaining hearing could legally possess a firearm sound suppressor under state law. Currently, Missouri enforces federal regulations on firearm sound suppressors by making their possession in violation of federal law a state crime.
